Hello you people have been a great helping hand when it has come to my questions and i greatly appriciate it but i have a nother question
 : i called up about a 1995 ford fairmont ef that was just around the corner from my house price $4700 200,000k... now firstly over the phone i asked him if anything was rong and he was nice enough to tell me that ocasionaly when the car changes gears it will jerk "im not completley sure what causes this but is it something to do with it slipping???" i asked if he was willing to go lower in price he said yes... but not by heaps... all i really wanna know is what causes this problem and how much will it cost me to fix?? THANX |

auto needs a service. ring around to either find a good 2nd hand one, or cost to repair/service the one in it.

whats the average pricing on an auto service??? sorry i forgot to mentione he said he dosent drive the car its his mums... but he said he thinks it only happens on hot days..

there is a guy round the corner from me in the inner west that does services for about $130, include full fluid and filter changes and if u have a trans cooler he does that as well, checks it all over etc etc. dunno how that compares but i plan on taking both my cars there.

well a $130 aint much at all but im just wondering if a service is what will fix the jerking.. dont want a car that will be more headachs then its worth..

Id just ask him the last time it was serviced, if anything was gonna go wrong it would have, its done 200k km. If he gets it serviced for you, then its a bit of piece of mind, but ive seen 170k km - 250k km cars on websites both dealers and private that would put that car around $6000 - $8000 so you never know it could be a bargain.

yeah they price droped it from 5400 to 4700 and i can bring him down maybe few $100 more but yeah might just go have a look at it...

keep in mind a service may *not* fix it.
it is possible that it will fit it, but you must be prepared for it to be more.

thats what im afraid of dont wanna pay for the car then have to pay $500 more because the gearbox is shaterd :S...

As trick-xd said, If the bloke is genuine ask if he will go with you to a trans specialist and ask them to drive it and give you a report. It shouldnt cost you anything for that and if it turns out to be an adjustment and service then the car is a bargain.

thanx for the advice i might just do that i work in hallam and transtyle is just accross the road and i live 2seconds away from it as well and so does this car so might just get him to bring it down in my lunch break or something.
