Well, finally I have the funding to do something about my constantly breaking right rear power window. It's been fixed so many times, I think it's time just to put a whole new motor in it. Now I'm wondering, with the basic door being the same shape, will an EL motor go in an EA? The EA ones were really weak, so I want something a bit stronger.

Cool. Is much modification needed, as I know the EL uses thicker glass than the EA?

Awesome. Thanks for that. At the moment I have my window duct-taped shut, so it is quite ugly and embarrasing. Not great security either!

the EF/EL regs are all ford sell now, they've got a better motor than EA-ED regs.....presuming to deal with the thicker glass...

If the window isn't going all the way up, it will be the regulator not the motor which is at fault. My car had a similar problem when I bought it... it would go 95% of the way up and start clicking. The fix cost SFA even though I was paying for labour.

often the cable frey's or snaps, causing it to have heaps of friction, which loads up the motor..... burning it out....

Nah. The problem is a gear spinning on the shaft. It's done it a number of times. A couple of months ago, a mechanic drilled a hole through the gear, and inserted a pin, but it's obviously snapped. (He actually put 2 pins in - the harder one sheared off after about 10 minutes so he put a softer one in so it wouldn't shear off as easy). It lasted a bit longer, but not long enough. The window stays up fairly well but slips down over time. I can raise and lower the window with my hands. Only solution, replace the unit.

only the ea had the dud design. eb-el had the same regs. obviously the later the model/lower kay car you get them from you would presume has more life left in them.
