hay!
Today I checked my accelerator cable, and when i pull it with my finger (near the throttle body), I am able to pull it a fair bit. It seems like its pretty loose! So I was hoping somebody could help out on how I could tighten it, because I tried, and I cant find a way to do it! Also, my auto tranny has done over 220,000 k's, and was wondering how much would a brand new auto tranny cost to buy, then get fitted? I dont want the standard ford one, Im trying to find a good sports auto with quick shifts, and more then 4 gears : Any help would be nice! Thanks |

Cable cannot be adjusted, so it's got to be replaced.
I did one a few months back, was about $25. If you're doing it yourself, have a really good look at how the current one is set up, will save you lots of time later on! All the best with it! GK

So all I have to do to replace it is feed it back through the black piping? lol Sorry if that sounds dumb, but ive never done it before!

Then you pull the cable back through into the car. When I reattached the new cable, I attached the pedal first, as the shape of the cable would have made it hard to attach the throttle body end first. I pushed it through the hole, making sure the waterproofing bung was firmly in place. Then I attached it at the throttle body, I undid more bolts than I needed, so have a good, long and careful look at it before you undo anything, especially at the thottle body end. Im up in Canberra! Im definatly going to do this on the weekend, because it actually feels like that when I put my foot down all the way to overtake (going from 80 to 110), the car does'nt feel as if its giving it its all... I also need a new transmission. When I slow down and use the gears to help slow down, I select either 3, or 2, it doesnt shift down at all, it just stays as it is... Its only until I flip into 1 that it kicks into that gear. Im looking for a new faster shifter auto!

Before you go changing the throttle cable, get someone (with the engine off) to press the accelerator flat to the floor simulating WOT. Take the air tubing off and see if the throttle butterfly is all the way open as far as it goes. Better still pull the throttle cable at the TB to see how far the butterly valve opens and then compare it to when the accelerator is pressed at WOT in the car.
I would do this before getting a new accelerator cable.
