I am in the market for a newer 'used' car, (the 4 cylinder Missing bits'n peices Magna isn't cutting it any more), and i'm trying to find out whether the Tickford engine / drivetrain was standard or an option for the the EL Fairmont Ghia. I already understand it was not for the standard Fairmont, but there seems to be a little misinformation from people selling the upgraded, upmarket Ghia. Was considering this as a better option for a purchase than the equivilant XR6, (which is an awesome machine even today!), but i'm guessing most have had a harder life. Interested in the clubs views?

EL Ghia has the XR6 3.45 LSD and 164kw motor as standard im fairly sure.
Then stuff like the tickford suspension was an option. |

Someone on here may correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the Tickford engine was EFII Ghia onwards. The engine was stifled a bit with a different exhaust and diff ratio was different but it was basically the same as a XR6.
The EF / EL Ghia is a great car with good levels of comfort / luxury and fairly good economy - there are some very nice examples in the showroom section. Happy Hunting Paul B XR6WGN

Can anyone confirm what suspension they ran? I was of the belief that it was atleast XR springs, as I know my car sits lower than EL GLi's.

EL Ghias had XR6 Engine as standard, as already mentioned the only difference was the exhaust which resulted in the power difference between XR and Ghia.
Suspension was an option and Im pretty sure it was just XR springs. Bodykit was another option that was fitted by Tickford. I think the diff ratio was actually 3.23, not 3.45.

i'm pretty sure the 4.0 EL Ghia was 162kw - standard 4.0 was 157, & i believe the xr6 & 5.0 option were 165kw, and the XR8 was 170 - then went to 185kw with the EL update. The only difference between the EL Ghia 4.0 and the xr6 4.0 was an exhaust restriction, to make the ghia powerful, but more refined. As far as i know the xr6 motor was only put in EL Ghia s1 and onwards. May have been an option in the EF Ghia ?

I've got a Tickford accessory guide for the EL Ghia's. Tickford suspension was definitely an option, not standard fitment. If you optioned Tickford wheels (sharkfin type) you had to option the sports suspension as well. There were 2 choices of tyres, they had a pov spec and then a top of the range Yokohama, apparently pretty good for their day.
There were actually 2 different versions of the sports suspension as well IIRC. There was a lowering package, and then another that had differnt camber/caster settings, upgraded swaybars and harder bushes. You couldn't get Tickford LPG on the Ghias. Sundeep |

Sundeep, I wonder what the codes etc are to identify the suspension specs?
The sharkfin rims you talk about, are they the same as that 2nd pic of fatnz's?

So much mis-information
EF1 Ghia 4.0 = 157kw stock motor and 3.23:1 Open EF2 Ghia 4.0 = 162kw tickford motor and 3.45:1 LSD EL Ghia 4.0 = 162kw tickford motor and 3.45:1 LSD EL Ghia 5.0's got the 165kw HO motor and 3.45:1 LSD (a better combo than the auto XR8)

Ive been looking at the El fairmont Ghia's lately for next car im gonna get i compared em to the XR6's and the only difference i could see was a couple of Kw's and the interior and the fact that the fairmonts came in auto only and the XR6's came in both auto and manual.
heres a link to the falcon facts which ive been refering to for some general info http://www.geocities.com/falconfacts.../elfalcon.html

Thank you all for your imput. This has certainly made the choice at lot easier. Kenaz can expect my membership application regardless of my choice. I still haven't closed the deal on any single vehicle, but regardless of whether it is a Fairmont Ghia or an EL XR6, It will be wearing the factory body kit, have the exhaust played with, and be wearing 18" BA XR8 Replica rims with the body lowered over them. Promise to post pics and keep y'all updated on the progress.
