Hey guys,
Long story short once again, I bought Damo's gold EA a couple of weeks ago for a really good price and just finished the conversion yesterday. Big thanks to Damo and Doug for giving us a hand with it all. I ran in to a big hiccup with the top starter motor bolt getting fairly messed up, so had to remove the whole inlet manifold to grind it off. Other than that it all went together fairly smoothly and with Doug's help it started up first go after the starter inhibitor wiring was modified. Anyways I'm very very happy with the result. We used the same clutch that was on Damo's car (Exedy something) and it's coping pretty well. The car is so much more fun to drive and feels pretty strong on boost. I've found for some reason now max boost I can get in first is 5PSI and then 6PSI in 2nd, then the full 8PSI in third. I don't know what's going on but I suspect a small leak under the manifold somewhere. I have no pics at the mo but I'm sure you can all imagine what a EA 5 speed gear stick looks like. Thanks to Damo and Doug once more. Sundeep |

the turbo EA 5 speed i was in earlier was making boost like that.
6psi in 1st, approaching 10 in 2nd, full 12psi in 3rd. perhaps its just the different load characteristics.

Might be time to spend a bit more dosh. Give it some more boost, cam and a retune. 200 at the wheels would be nice. Sundeep |

I'm glad you're happy with it Sunny, it felt pretty healthy when i had a squirt, the clutch is an Excedy Daikin, and was deffinately in good nick still. Forget tune and boost and cam get a diff!!! have you sat in the back whilst it's driving ?@? lol
Pretty good stuff though, definately the easiest 5 speed instalation and removal ever. Bit of trivia for all you E-series buffs, the gear box that's in sunnys car was originally in Jack Travis, aka Trouty, aka ILSautomotives's EA he had it for less than 2000 kms before he came up with the brilliant idea of making a turbo EA sleeper. I purchase the gearbox and full conversion and converted my EA 3 speed with 2.77 diff to 5 speed. Then I blew the diff up and put a 2.92:1 lsd in it and it was sik. So yeah This gearbox is onto it third member without a rebuild and is still in pretty much perfect condition. So much for weak EA T5's. : |

Yeah it's done the round for sure.
Here's some more useless info for you about my car; - This is the 4th gearbox - 3rd motor - Original diff 400,000km ..and I think I've done just about every conversion there is to do now! Sundeep |

Was pulling 181.3 with the auto Rob.
There was nothing really wrong with any trans, the first one died due to *cough* incorrect installation, second one needed a S5 and the third was due for a solenoid somewhere too. Sundeep |

Sounds good Sundeep. Manuals are heaps good. Odd about the boost though, I get 12 in first, 12 in second etc.

Good to hear you got it running. It was disappointing on Sunday night to come and watch you guys do the conversion and then not be able to go for a ride.

Yeah I knew it happened in big turbo cars with lots of lag but didnt think it would in this case.
When are you racing next Sundeep? Dyno day tomorrow to see the difference and drag day next weekend to test it out. I reckon it will make 200 without any more mods.

You can keep trying to make yourself feel better for getting a massive loan to buy a car you couldn't afford, and then having to sell it because you couldn't afford to then fix a busted synchro. Some of us actually don't need loans to spend money, we can earn and save. Dan, I've got work tomorrow so I can't attend the dyno day, otherwise I probably would :o( I'm going to have a closer look at the boost issue on Sunday probably. Sucks only getting 5PSI in first! I want double that. Next mod will be stereo which I still have from the EB including DVD player and the rest, new front bar and an interior steam clean :S Sundeep |

I also reckon it's about time I did a project car thread. I've got hundreds of pictures of every stage of the modifications and respray, but there's way too much to write!
I've also got heaps of before pics... mmm straight gas CFI 4 speed 4WD! They're just too funny to look at now, to see how far the car's come. Sundeep |
