TWO high-speed street races left a young man dead, eight people injured and a bus driver trapped in a wreck last night. A passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo died instantly when a 19-year-old P-plate driver lost control and smashed into a power pole on the Princes Highway at Tempe about 10.15pm. Two cars were heard travelling at high speed seconds before the impact. Police were examining a Mazda RX7 near the crash site early today. The driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The crash came 15 minutes after a government bus came within centimetres of smashing into a Chatswood apartment after being forced off the Pacific Highway. The bus had collided with a Subaru WRX before smashing through a brick wall. The Subaru was allegedly racing two other vehicles. The bus driver was trapped in the wreckage and was taken to hospital after being cut free. Seven passengers were treated for minor injuries. Forget all this alleged stuff, they were racing. I can't say anymore.

Damm hoons.
They always kill the passenger, not themselves. This is why inexperienced drivers should not be driving high-performance cars. Damm hoons. |

What was a P-Plater doing in an EVO?!!? That is a sure recipe for disaster! I thought there were power/weight restrictions in NSW like here in Vic?
And the Suby forcing a BUS off the road? What were these guys doing... Stuff like this will doom us all. |

Yes, no wonder we are all lumped into the HOON category with IDIOTS like this on our roads..Anything that looks like modified/high performance car is driven by a HOON.. We had an instance up here of a run of the mill Toyota involving a fatal accident wearing mag wheels, referred to as a performance car driven by a HOON.If it wasn't tragic it would be funny..Bl00dy media ..

driving a car like that! i'm curious as to how he got the car tho? surely he can't have 40+ grand stuck up his sleeve! another loss to our roads, and another crackdown by the government, making it unfair for people like us! Quote:

Notice when ever it is an older person who causes a fatality, nothing is mentioned about their age. Often these are much worse accidents and no one seems to care.

world is better off with out them IMO it's just unfortunate that the way they remove themselves from the gene pool has such an impact on others.

Ye well there was no mention of hoons or hoon behavior when that Ferrari wrapped itself around a tree in Melb a while back, amazing that.
As for high powered cars if they really wanted to do something the government would have the cars detuned and locked until the driver is a full licenced driver. It would be easier to police with scan tools so readily available these days the coppers would just plug in and see if the locks had been tampered with. Unfortunately though the government couldn't give a toss about trying to stop these kinds of tragedies and yet love to use them as others have said to further there grip on our nads by increasing restrictions and bringing in new laws. The strange thing is that it would be cheaper than even the ad campaigns to implement, but then I guess they couldn't justify the huge budgets they work from.

Well, when I was 19 there weren't many choices available to me re: performance cars, it was either a V8 or and slant 6, drum brakes, crap suspension, crap tyres, crap seats, no airbags, lap sash seat belts and the list goes on.
You sure learn how to drive a car when you go through a puddle knowing that you have to drag the brakes for 15 meters to dry them out before it'll stop, or absorb 5 inches of body roll and chassis flex before you hit the apex of a corner, and that was in a good car of the day. False sense of security and absolutly no sense of speed and distance is what happens in new cars, glad I didn't learn to drive in a wrx or I'd most likely be cat food by now too... |

LMAO you obviously don't drive a heavy vehicle do you, unfortunately the heavy vehicle driver is almost always found at fault in the case of an incident regardless of the cause. I should set up a camera in the truck just to show you how stupid people are around trucks and the like, unfortunately 'we' have to watch out for you. Although in saying this I have at times used the size to my advantage :

Made by someone that drives a heavy vehicle for a living, so in fact a very well educated one. Apart from that, do you mean to tell me that if someone cut you off catching you by surpise that you would drive into them, chances are you would try to avoid them so as not to damage your own vehicle or aide them in causing an accident.

I just wish car capacity laws mirror what bike laws were. Then at least this way young inexperienced kids wouod not be alowed to get behind high powered vehicled.
It should also be compulsary to do defensive driving courses to get their license |

BOSS290 i agree the laws are not adequate, Power to weight ration doens't make you a safe/good/capable driver.
Road funding is misdirected IMO just think if you took the revenue from speed cameras and put that into driver education programs..ie compulsory car controll courses, compulsory advanced driving courses etc etc then less of these accidents would occur. saying that after 100hours of sesame street driving and "maybe" a lesson on how to pass the test is a bit slack. At the end of the day there will still be those who choose to take part in risky activity, and there isn't much you can do about it. There is absoloutly no point in legislating against the lowest common denominator, because at the end of the day you won't change their out look on life. But in Australia there is a real lack of driver education and this is the issue that needs to be dealt with. Don't even get me started on the rubbish speed restrictions in NSW for new drivers. Driving is not a right it is a PRIVILAGE!!!
