Default Leaves in the fan...HELP

I'm having trouble finding where to get the leaves out of my Ghia's blower fan, I've followed some advice on here by dropping the glovebox out, but I can't seem to find (to quote from the other thread) "the door that opens and shuts when switched to recirc".

It says you'll be able to see where the leaves are and tease them out with a pair of tweezers. All I can see is a bunch of wiring loom wires and stuff.

Can anyone help?

I had to get some out of my parents Fairmont, like you said, drop the glovebox and get it out of the way. The fan unit is to the left and the door will be down, you can open it with your hand - best way is to make sure the fan isnt on (keys out of ignition), and just move your hand around until you find it. IIRC the door has some sort of foam insulation on it, not sure. I held it open, turned the fan up full speed and shoved a vacuum cleaner in there (not into the spinning bit obviously), and it got em out pretty easy.

Thanks.

I'm looking but can't see where you mean. To the immediate left of the glovebox or dead ahead behind the glovebox?

also you should be able to, with the key to accessories position, turn the fan to recirculate (or fresh, not 100% sure) and "door" will open automatically after a couple of seconds. turn the key off (i think the door will saty open) and you will be able to remove the rubbish from the fan. this is an all too common problem, perhaps another of the AU's design flaws?

Thanks guys, just putting the car back together again tonight.

Also disconnected the battery too, so will see if the ECU reset procedure makes any difference !

Normally just puttig the fan on full and switching between recirc and fresh fixes it, but it's been over a week now and they weren't shifting.

Cheers.

Try some flyscreen mesh on the passenger side air inlet by the compliance plate to stop this happening again too. It works for me!

If the next person who does this could get the odd photo or two of what to pull out and stuff it would be great

Because I'm getting the odd "tick tick tick" when I turn my fan on - thinking my fan is going to have to undergo leaf removal surgery pretty shortly!

Jonbays - great idea, I park by a bamboo hedge at home and the leaves are thinner and get in more places than the gum leaves !

Riksta - would have taken photos but ran out of time.
Dead easy though, 2 screws and a 'bit of a tug' and the glovebox pops off it's plastic hinges at the bottom, and the recirc fan/door is silver in colour with blue insulation foam to the bottom, directly in front of you when you look at the space where the glovebox was.

The ECU reset made the DTE readout go to 550kms (never possible round town!) and the car idle better a heap. Well, it seems like it does anyway!

Cheers.
