im having this argument with a mate, what would win? a MANUAL EL XR6 or a AUTO BA XT. Both with LSD.
Iv known poeple with Manual 4ltr from ED-AU run low 15sec 1/4mile times the qwikest iv seen at 15.06. IMO the BA XT is not capable of a low 15sec pass stock? what is everyones thoughts? Thanks. |

Power to weights would be failry similar, but same old story.. it would be hard to find a stock el xr6 now, let alone one in good enough nic to beat the BA :-)
There is talk of a stock XR6 b series that ran a 15.1 .. |

there 8 -10 yr old cars mate, not 20-30 to not find em in good nick., anyway with a good manual driver i think the EL XR6 would beat both a auto xt and an xr6.

Brett_4777 on Fordmods ran a 15.01 in his Mk1 BA Auto N/A XR6 totally stock, only mod he made was a LSD and Typhoon air intake.
The BA/BF I6's are and can be quick cars. |

acceleration i'd go the XR6 but once you reach speeds of 150k's + the ba will destroy.
go the DOHC

it all depends on the start really.... evenly matched, i had a eb xr8 exhaust and intake lsd manual vs ba xt auto, and i stuffed the start and we were even all the say til higher speeds and the ba pulled hard. dragged a xr6 manual el and it was dead even the whole way......... so really it would be driver skill. that ba xt gtech a 15.5

I tested my Fairmont on private land with only minor mods (exhaust, air induction) against a stock BA and held a car length until we reached those speeds. When we got to about 150k's the BA went past with ease. hot knife through butter.

I think motor magazine recorded a lowish 15 for a manual BA XT. An auto would run a 15.5 or so. I don't think an EL XR6 would beat a BAXT when you consider that most ELs have clocked well over 200,000km. If we were comparing new cars the contest will be close. The EL may even win.

I've got a BA XR6 Ute, manual, exhaust, K&N, F6 Snorkel and EF XR6 Sedan, manual, extractors, exhaust, K&N, GT Snorkel The EF is in Immac cond, so dunno what the comment about good enough nic is. Its mechanically as sound as my BA, more fun to drive, kills t through the corners, and Lunches it in a straight line to 100, down the quarter, and the BA doesnt catch it til a bit over 160kmh. BA hits the wall at 180kmh, EF hauls all the way to just on the 220 indicated. Ran 0 - 100kmh and 0 - 400m times with both, on the same track, using the G-Tech and the the numbers back this up. |

Also, if i wasn't doing the KM i do, i would be quite happy to a'hole the ute and drive the ef. On petrol, its miles cheaper to run, more enjoyable to drive, easier to work on, still looks sweet, quicker, and about 17k Less to buy at current prices.
BA's really are a barge, and its not until you get into something a little more nimble that you realise it. My missus Astra CD punches through corners quicker and easier than i can in the BA. Insurance wise, BA costs me about $714 for full comp with windscreen cover, EF with mods listed on the policy is about $730. Thats the only downfall. |

I owned a manual EL-XR6 for many years and currently drive a BA XT 6 as a work horse on a daily basis and in my opinion/experience they perform very differently.
The E series XR6 was/is definately quicker and a better vehicle in every other aspect than the BA. I would rate the EF/EL manuals as a low 15 over the quarter, pretty quick and the BA as probably high 15's, as far as top speed performance goes no idea, neither vehicle are stable enough at very high speed anyway in my opinion. In all fairness to the BA it is not marketed as a performance type of vehicle and its targeted buyer is not interested in performance where the E series XR6's were, again very different characteristics between the two. |

The E-series XR6 pulls harder between 500 - 4000rpm, so they're faster over the 100 kay mark. After that, the BA's feel quicker.
0-100 the manual e-series XR6 0-400 even steven methinks... On a track, the e-series every time. But yeah, two very different cars. |

With a good driver I think the average EL XR6 manual will easily account for the average BA XT auto.

ok guys now lets compare it this way, EL GL auto vs BA XT auto ( then both cars manual) then compare the Ba XR6 auto vs EL XR6 auto ( then both manual) which is better? at the end of the day you compare XR's vs XR's and standered Falcons with standered Falcons,
Can we compare the BA GT vs the EL GT? |

Yeah the BA GT would destroy it! and i doubt it if the EL XR6 would beat even a BA XT Lpg , but that would be close!

This is not an EL VS BA contest, its a manual el xr6 vs a auto ba xt.
You have to be joking about an elxr6 not beating a ba xt lpg right? |
