Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a black AUI Fairmont. Just a quick question - what does the ECON button actually do? I assume it changes the gear ratios or something but if you know what you're talking about it would be greatly appreciated. |

When turned on, it changes gears at a lower rev, so it supposedly saves fuel. Also the gear changes are a little softer.

As said above, i have Adaptive shift in my xr8 and i always use the Max performance mode so on yours it would be the other besides the econ, I use this setting as it has the quickest downshift time so when i need it to change from 2nd to 1st it does it as i press, not you press and the ECU thinks gee i think he wants a downshift here and thinks and thinks then go OOHHHH he really wants a shift and by the time it shifts there is a car in your rear-end(car).

In Econ mode, it also takes a bigger jab with the pedal to make it kickdown.

I have mine on all the time though, as with ECON off it holds the gears long enough for that characteristic Falcon auto gearbox whine to kick in!! I hate that bloody noise more than anything, so I leave it in Economy mode, and it doesn't hold gears long enough for that noise to kick in! Sad I know, I obviously have too much time on my hands!

I can't pick the difference, except when the aircon is on it seems to kick in less when in econ

I leave mine in ECON ... as the standard factory LPG motor suck at revving ... there's no use turning ECON off .. unless you like the sound of a revving motor ... and still no more power.
Also ECON is better for towing and heavy load work as well .. less hunting for gears and a smoother drive.

Mine doesnt even work. It feels like it is locked into power mode all the time. Anyone heard of this happening?

Gear change up points should go up by about 1000 revs or so. It should kick down heaps easier. Also, both my AUs are on dual fuel and there is a difference still between modes. GK

I leave my econ off, shifts are a little harsher but the difference in take off is noticable.
I will put the econ mode on when I am on long trips where shifting into lower gears is not really necessary. |
