David HICKS

I don't know about anyone else but I'm so sick of hearing about David HICKS, he was caught redhanded training with terrorists etc...
His Dad, lawyers and every other bleeding heart in the world kept going on about giving him a fair trial, he's innocent.
So he gets his day in court, his opportunity to plead his case that he was really just a tourist and happened to be holidaying at the terrorist camp and whats he do, PLEADS GUILTY.
Now they say he's pleaded guilty just to get out of his orange jarmys, but he's looking at 20 years in prison so why would you do that. Wouldn't you try and beat it if you had half an excuse.
How do they say he will be home by the end of the year, are they going to let him do his time here on Oz??
I suppose New Idea, Womans Day and 60 minutes will all be out with their cheque books.

Well he's spent 5 or so years in Guantanamo Bay. I'm thinking any Australian prison is looking better by the minute!

to me its the same story with chappelle and the bali 9. its seems (no doubt spurred on by the media) there is a big group of people in this country that believe if your australian, then your an angel that never does anything wrong

it's all a ploy by the families , and lawyers to keep thier stories in the media . otherwise everyone ( the public ) forgets about them and they have zero choice of freedom .

He gets food and shelter.

For a suspected criminal/terrorist, i think thats more than fair.

Erm, they get tortured there. Everything from sexual assault, to attack dogs let onto them, sleep deprivation (max 4 hours a night for 6 weeks), hot and cold sessions that have left inmates hospitalised etc.

Whilst I don't think he's completely innocent, I don't think he deserves the treatment he's getting.

They've also dropped certain charges on him because the evidence was fake, or so i've been told.

And i'll leave it at that as i've gone brain dead and can't think. Nor do I want to make this political and get it closed.

his father said he tried to stop him going over , and thought his son has flipped out . just after he was caught . lawyers quickly changed his statements to he is innocent and wasn't doing anything wrong .

For a proven criminal/terrorist that is fair. Even if he is/weren't I'd say being on home soil would be of some comfort.

When it comes to Mr Hicks, I see it as "one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter".
Without ALL the facts we will never know the whole truth.

Id rather be in an American prison than a Thai or Vietnamese prison. That would be hard time.

But he isn't a convicted terrorist yet! He has been held on suspicion. We never get the full story but logic has it that if they had good grounds on him then we wouldn't have heard as much about it as we have.

Guantanamo Bay does not seem to be a nice place to be, nor is any prison but I'd be mighty ****ed about being held there without being through court.

I dont care what you have done, to be in prison for that length of time without trial is a joke, and an embarrassment for a country that prides itself on democracy and all that jazz.

I agree, he shouldn't have been there, but where are the charges? And if they are real it does not take this long to be convicted. If you are caught in the act there is your proof, and to jail you go.
