what do ya think of taking ya new car out and parking it especially if your an enthusiest with something nice.???
i have a new gt and am too scared to take it anywhere.if you drive it around people drive next to you not looking at the road. : have a phobia about car parks as people go up and peer inside it with their hands on it etc. etc. it has been keyed already 40cm scratch at my wifes work, luckily a good detailer minimised the scratch for us. what do youguys out there do with yours ? IE: do you's not worry and just drive them or suffer in silance and tend to leave them in the garage.

As soon as I got my XR6 new in 1995, I put anout 300 km on it the first day.

Same with my XB GT. As soon as it was relaible, i got driven nearly everywhere!

When I first had my car I used to love driving it. I still do like driving it but I know thier are some jelous bastards out thier that will key your car. I have a nice line down the bonnet of my car from some idiot.
Parking at work is fine as thiers no lines out the back where I park so everyone leaves like 1 metre gaps bewtween cars but I do hate parking at big shopping centres so I tend to park next to nice cars as well.

Jeez is this an Australian thing? Because I have never heard of a car being keyed where I live, and I'm in a pretty shitty area. I'm never scared to drive my cars, even when I first got them. I bought it to enjoy.

But then again I hardly have a "new" or "desirable/collectible" car like a BA or old GT! I'd be a nervous wreck if I had an old GT and had to park it in a public place...

Even with my old EB I was too scared to take it to shopping centres, too many dickheads around that just have no respect. Now I have the AU Im not keen on taking it anywhere where I dont know everyone who will be around it.

I always take either Mums EA, the GF's shitter ED or my bike if I have to go shopping. I prefer to just shop in the city during working hours while the car stays home tucked up behind the locked gate.

I hate shopping centres. I got my AU and the first day some **** opened their door on it!!! I was too used to driving my VR...

You just have to be careful where yu park, choose your spot well. Park in a well lit, populated area and if possible park next to a pole/divider so at least thats one side of the car someone wont have a chance to smash their door into. Usually parking next to other nice cars helps minimise damage and dont be slack park an extra 200m away if it means you dont have to squeeze your car into some tight little spot for the sake of saving you from walking the extra 200m!

Im currently feeling this a lot in the Focus, its in perfect condition and i want to keep it that way but i am resigned to the fact that sooner or later something is going to hit or damage it.

In carparks i park as close as i can to the actual mall/shop, that way if anyone does hit it at least they cant just do a runner without someone seeing them and hopefully telling you who it was and what they were driving. My fear is more shopping trolleys than other cars, i never park near the collection bays for that reason and if there is one anywhere near the spot where im parking i'll get out and move it away. Some moron took one and rammed it into the front quarter of my old EF, amazingly it didnt leave a single mark but still i was not happy.

Same with me in the fiesta. Its only a month old now and its always in my uni carpark (Full of shitters with feral uni drivers who dont give 2 shits). I tend to park it in the furthest space away as i can. Hell I need the excercise anyway!

I work in a shopping centre, and I used to park my XD in the same spot, right near the doors everyday.
There was a guard rail on the drivers side, and 2 other car spots facing sideways on the other side.
They were usually filled at 6am, by other staff, and for 3 years I had no problem.
Within about 3 months, it was scratched fairly deep on the near side front guard (looks like a shopping trolley scratch)
Then one of our Deli staff came into my office saying that the trolley collector was sitting on his tractor, with his feet on my car.
I dropped what I was doing, and ran upstairs to save my car and hurl abuse at the guy.
Our backdock guy was up there having a cigarette as well, and was already abusing the guy. He actually pulled him away from the car and started pushing him, but since that parking spot is right under a security camera centre security were up there in a flash and broke it up.
The trolley contractor lost the contract for our store though.

Now i park the XR6 in the security underground carpark where my grandmother lives up the street from work.
It just means that now I have to walk around the block in the dark at 5.45am

I hate when I parallel park, only to find when I return some ****er has parked 1 inch from my car, leaving themselves 3 feet of manouvering space, and me nothing. Man that annoys me!! Then it's the old 4687-point-turn to get out hoping I don't nudge anything on the way out.

Now consider I'm still only about 2 weeks new to the EF so my perception of the car's dimensions isn't the best yet...

Dont ever ever park near a 4wd.
Dont park near a car that makes any mention of kids onboard.
I always try for a gutter or garden edge that I can park 5mm from.
Other than that I say stuff them all. I pick a spot not to close to the shops with heaps of space and park in the middle of 2 spots.
I came out of a shop one day and there was a nice ford parked next to me. It was perfect the 2 of us over 4 spots.....

when i had my elxr8 since new i would park as far away from the shop entry as possible even if the car park was empty. i found that a shitbox would park next to it thinking , ( there is only two cars here so i'll park next to this good one , that way if someone piches a car it wont be mine ) jeez that used to shit me and they would also park 2 inches away from it. you cant win nice cars will park next to you so you wont damage their car . shit cars will park next to you to keep thiers safer.

I agree about the 4WD thing, also dont park in front of or behind anything that has a bull or towbar. Its just asking for trouble.

I also dont park near P platers (even though im one myself, seen too many dickheads get silly about the cars), cars with kids in them or loading bays.

And double parking is good but its not a recommended idea during the day.

You are also at fault if reversing and you hit someone even if THEY were really at fault by some means...typically hooning.

We have two kids in car seats, so I try and park near a structural pole so there is only one car next to you. Actually I do that anyway. Often someone else though thinks...great, heaps of room, so they park in, or nearly in, your park too, taking up the space you purposefully left!

Also pi$$es me off seeing people park in 'parents with prams' or 'disabled parks' for no reason. Watched a convertible Porsche park in a parents with pram park so I upended a bin into it...well I bloody felt like it! I saw a guy in a new orange BA GT (anyone from Bendigo here who owns this?) park in a parents with prams spot. Damn I was tempted to tell him to move it...need to grow bigger balls...but as I walked near him, in a raised voice I said, "God people with no kids who park in parents with prams parks are ignorant pricks!" He heard!

I purchased our BA wagon second hand. I am so glad I did because if it was new, I'd be mightily pi$$ed! My wife went out shopping and was getting the kids out of the car, when someone else pulled up beside her, and a kid flung open their door and the very tip of it dug into our door! The mother kept walking, saying it was only a small mark! My wife said she wanted her details, but whe wouldn't give them to her. She took photo's and the rego number then went to the Police station and reported her. We didn't end up pursuing it because it was only a small 'gash', but it was the attitude that angered her, and me!
I also backed into a sign post when it was a week old! Quite impressed with how the bumper sprung back out though! Got home that evening VERY annoyed, but as soon as I saw the news I thought "It's only a bumper!" The Tsunami was big news at that time...quickly puts things into perspective.
