I'll wait till the novelty of having shiny parts under my bonnet wears off then I'll probably do something like that.

JUZXR8 did you have to modify the airbox to make the pod fit?

the only thing i did was put a small piece of pvc pipe, bout 4 inches worth, through the opening into the top of the airbox and sealed it with some silicon, then u just join your pod onto the pipe inside the box, it all fits in snuggly!

Secondly, all EB onwards 4.0 I6 falcons have an intake temperature sensor, which measures the temp of the air being drawn into the intake, and adjusts mixtures accordingly, thereby keeping emmissions nice and safe (and legal). Thirdly, where are unboxed pods illegal. Different states have different registration requirements, so to say something is illegal, you need to state what state you are talking about. It would also help to link to the relevant legislation/rules/guidelines to show that you know what you are talking about. For instance, in the ACT, an exposed Pod is totally legal, as long as the pod is secured to the car. Most pods come with some sort of strap to assist in doing this, therefore, these pods are legal in the ACT. Can't find the rego rules to support this, so let's just say I made it up - but without those rules, how would you know if I'm right or wrong? Here's the NSW RTA possible reason why you may get defected for a Pod Filter: Noise from filters and valves Avoid fitting your vehicle with a pod-type air filter. This filter increases engine induction noise and may also increase exhaust gas pollution. Under clause 20 of the Regulation, it is an offence to modify an engine's air intake when it results in an engine noise level exceeding the maximum level specified in the Regulation. Do not fit blow-off valves that vent directly into the atmosphere. Blow-off valves that vent back into the induction system are allowed. Waste gate valves are nonstandard pressure release valves for turbochargers. These devices increase the noise from engines and can cause disturbance. If you are fitting these valves, ensure they do not vent directly into the atmosphere but into the exhaust system upstream of any mufflers. So, the Pod is only illegal if the car's noise exceeds limits - pretty hard to do with just a POD. This is an EPA requirement, BTW, not an RTA/ADR requirement. http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/no...hiclenoise.htm Back on topic - that setup looks good, but what does the ribbed blue stuff do?

Iam just about to get a K&N pod filter, however i was thinking about just getting a pad and putting it in the box. With the POD filter, if ur EA-ED falcon doesnt have abs, you can bore a hole straight down underneath the old airbox. Of cource this isn't great but you get a lot of cool air coming through.

Under ADRs, Pod filters are OK for EFI cars, except if they are oiled filter elements (interesting stuff - makes most K&N filters illegal):
TECHNICAL GUIDELINES FOR AIR AND NOISE EMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR MODIFIED IN-SERVICE VEHICLES Information Bulletin 5 (a) Open element or pod type air cleaners on carburetted vehicles are not permitted. (b) Dry element pod type air cleaners are permitted on EFI vehicles. Oiled, oil-soaked or fluid-treated elements are not permitted. Any sensors integral to the original system must be retrofitted to the same approximate location. Source: http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache...4FILE/1031.pdf

this is the best intake mod you can do, put an 80mm bellmouth inside the airbox lid. I have tried every pod setup, snorkel etc, and this setup works the best by far.

yeh my mums got a pod in her car and i honestly cant hear it (yes its K&N) and its definatly sucking cold air only as its custom piped to a opening behind the front foglights. im happy with jamex panel filter in standard airbox with XH snorkel for the time being as i dont want to get defected or fined for something i can only just afford to add anyway.

i'm pretty (98%) sure pod filters are legal in S.A as long they are securely mounted and they are not oil filled.

thanks for that, i just had a look at the gregorys repair manual and found it.
to answer your Qu's EFGiar the iat sensor is located just below the throttle body and below the tps sensor and next to the fuel rail. |
