EF2-EL Fairmont Ghias got the Tickford goodies. Can't go wrong with any of them, but I would be slightly drawn to the XRs due to the fact that you can find a factory manual, but then insurance is slightly higher..

If your not adement on getting a V8 i would look at an EF2 or EL fairmont ghia 6cyl.
If you would prefer a v8 (who wouldnt!!) Get a V8 ghia over a poverty spec XR8. Only downside is no manual option. However conversions are avalable.

Fairmont Ghia would be my pick.
Fairmont Ghia: Climate Control High Series Dash (door ajar indicator, All gauges, gear selector screen) Leather Interior Power windows all round Nice front end (that said, the XR front is nice too) Still getting Tickford gear which is a good base for mods Easier and cheaper to insure (usually) 3.23 Diff ratio means quicker than Gli/Futura to take off but not XR Comfort whilst not missing out completely on performance XR6/8: Basic Aircon Basic Dash but with Oil Pressure + Voltage gauges in Cluster Basic Interior with front power windows only Nice front end Performance is good but a Futura etc with good mods will keep up anyway 3.45 Diff ratio = quicker off the line Factory Manuals available Harder/More expensive to Insure And then you have Futura (which is actually what XR is based on): Basic Aircon Basic Dash Basic Interior No leather Less supportive seats 3.08 Diff Ratio = slow to take off Factory Manual was an option Basic engine package but a good basis to modify on That said, the Futura is a great car if ou're looking to mod it up and get it to perform. Can be easily made to beat/keep up with an XR depending on the mods you do.

EF2/EL ghia has 3.45:1 lsd
also doesnt have door ajar indicator but B2TF summed up the cars perfectly!

you'd be looking at $1500 for a 5speed conversion - and don't go XR front end, keep the fairmont - they look classy and suit the car, esp since the fairmont ain't a performance model.

If you really want the EL GT is based on the Fairmont Gia, so a body kit could be added! If you dont hate the front end.

ok thats just hot!
I usually dont like chrome wheels, but thats done well with the darkness of the paint and the ghia chrome strip around the car. Have you tried taking all the badges off the side? I think it would look even meaner! A Ef2/EL Ghia with a manual conversion would have to be the ultimate e-series bar a GT.
