Be heard all you like, but I am sure the amount of canaries handed out that day is going to be huge, good luck with it, but since when does the government ever listen.

haha yeah ok...this should be funny to watch.
If you are going to be on the news I was going to suggest a FF.com.au sticker but it might be bad publicity :/

Personally, I don't think it's that bad an idea. The first few years of driving on Sydney roads should be spent concentrating on getting to know the road. When you're off your P's, and usually more likely to be able to afford a decent car *and* insure it then you'll hopefully have conquered all the basics. Seen too many P platers in cars they couldn't handle do too many boneheaded things around me. |

There should be a method of receiving an exemption, particularly those out in rural areas where V8's (and I heard P platers banned from 4WD's too) are a lot more prevelant and some would deem neccessary. Having to complete advanced driver training, etc.

I am a P-plater myself and I don't think that your voice will be heard. From what I saw on Today Tonight/A Current Affair when the coppers stopped a p-plater car, the guys were singing "Old McDonald" to the coppers! With having to put up with shit like that I don't think you'll be getting much sympathy with this law.
In the mean time, just be thankful that it won't be effecting you (from what they say). |

The voice may not be heard - but that's no reason not to protest.
Enjoy your freedom of association and your right to protest. Cant help but echo the sentiments it will likely be a bunch of habibi ****ers... but they are citizens too.

OK so really what percentage drivers are we talking about here 3%,5%,or 10%. It ONLY affects V8s and Turbo cars and a few F**kwits who have already lost their license once. It doesn't affect tossers in clapped out VLs etc. Find out the real statistics as to how many P platers were killed in these types of cars and you will find the net effect will be SFA. Then they will bring in more draconian rules You can still pile 5 kids in a laser and at 100kph the result will be the same, more dead kids. My P plate son will still able to drive my BA XR6 (yeah right) but not allowed to drive a 10yr old V8 which doesn't produce as much power,go figure. Which one do you think he can afford. What about a low blow Turbo SAAB 2ltr even less power still, sorry young fella. Or will there be a list of what they can and can't drive like in VIC.

At least in Sydney, it's a different culture among some car enthusiasts than it used to be. I had been to a couple of off street drags in the late 80's and I had also been on my fair share of street meets and it was a bunch of car enthusiasts getting together and being social, and stemming from that (as part of organised car enthusiast groups) that culture still goes on. Thankfully it's also passing the torch to the next gen of car enthusiasts (plenty of them on this site) to carry on that tradition. Good clean fun and socialising within a group interest. There's another breed of 'enthusiast' but I don't know if they can even be called that, who indulge in fast cars but get together mainly to cause trouble or indulge in bonehead acts. The "Fast and Furious" crowd. I think that partly this law has been passed to help curb that behaviour as well, but until they issue batons instead of purses for police officers to keep their testes, we're still going to have these issues in Sydney. I'm sure it was on this site not so long ago about a link to a ricer cruise along the F3 that got busted up and a few cars defected that we all had a chuckle about... however, you could see the destructive mentality among them as the thread got heated. It's not just about trying to remove the potential to get a car that can go from 0 to oops quicker than the inexperienced driver can handle but to also attempt to break up the anti-social behaviour that's harboured within it. Shit I sound old. |

My 19 yr old son has not had his L's for long and has last week purchased his brother Gambits EL XR8 from him, so now he has a car to pay off that he won't be legally allowed to drive :

yeap that bites but them the brakes...
SVO347 - basically in NSW they are bringing in a law to P platers cannot drive V8's and turbos on their P's. Simple; lets just see if its effective. Atleast they are trying to do something and its better than nothing.

Stopping dead from 45km per hour (say a body hitting a concrete slab) that is well and truly sufficient for massive internal injury and or fatality. I think if ppl are going to speed they wil do it in whatever they are in. I think the rules are just ridiculous because a standard BA falcon will outdo an old 302 XC. How about all those 253 commies out there??? This is a sad day for Australia. My first car was a 351 powered XD, I was 17 and that thing scared the S**T out of me. I learned respect for power, I understood much more about handling any car because I had to modulate throttle and be aware of the cars balance, something a Corolla driver would only be distantly aware of.
I feel sorry for all those kids in the country who only have one family car (like a turbo diesel ute or v8 fairlane/Statesman. This is Australia - since when are we told what cars we can drive???? This is an act of bastadry that has no evidence to support it. I think it is disgusting that politicians are patting themselves on the back thinking they have done the right thing when there are no facts that say that their action will make any difference to road tolls AT ALL. Stock 4 cyl and 6 cyl cars still so over 200k's per hour, and you still die if you hit something at that speed. I am disgusted. |

Fair enough call turbotaxi...but do you have a better idea on how to stop young driver deaths? Of course all are not related to hi-po cars, but give me one good reason why a p plater needs a turbo or V8 when they can do what they want once off there P's?
Or, give a good example of something else that can be done. Its very easy to critise; not so easy to come up with a solution.

I live in ACT lol so its all good. Its pretty bullshit. Most beefed up cars are safer than normal cars anyways. Better brakes and better suspension. No matter what car your in when confidence overpowers competence the risk is greater. I tend to see more accidents in POS cars (pushing the boundaries of these shitboxes) coz they dont care how they treat them and therefore more accidents. I would actually like to see some statistics saying your more at risk in a high performance car than a POS. Crashing at 100km/h in a POS and a high performance car is the same. Doesnt matter anyways only law abiding people follow the rules and do you think a lot of people have legally modifed cars. If someone wants to break the rules they will there is no physical restraint on it.

Hmm, interesting, so tell me this, your allowed a V6, done up, aslong as its not turbod or supercharged. Well that sounds fine to me. I agree with what was said before, i cant see why anybody would need a V8 or a turbo/super charged car while there on there p's anyway. I heard somewhere that this might be coming in in qld. Can anybody tell me anything about this?

Going around a corner in the wet in a stock 4cyl and putting the foot down probably wont do anything. Do the same in a higher power 6 or 8 and the rear will soon be swapping ends with the front. More power = more potential to do stupid shit to show off to your mates. taking 10 minutes to wind up to 200kph in a 4cyl laser isnt really an issue. Sure you could still do that, but its just alot harder. It isnt like you're gonna be on P plates for life anyway. Since when are aircraft pilots allowed to jump straight in a 747 anyway. |

once again another little bit of our freedom of choice taken away and all the so called wise ones backing them,
i hate these young turds driving around in their 200kw weapons as much as anyone, .the ones with money (read most likely to push the limits) will now just go and spend $3k to $15k getting their engines worked in their non turbo cars . so they can still do 240kmh plus ,so nothings changed as per usual. If they were serious they would make it a power to weight limit, It will never happen as that would cost a lot to police. if your government was really out to help curb the road toll, they would pay for driver education courses for all schools, anyone who believes this is for the good of all,you are kidding yourself. just wait for a year and see what little tidbits they add on that involve collecting fines for there coffers that will affect other drivers who were congratulating this new law today. |
