now on thursday night I went out to coles to stock up on groceries. Harmless, right? Wrong. I parked my car and went in to get my list. Came back home none the wiser (it was dark, damage is only relatively small, but enough to @)#( me off). This morning when i went to go for a drive, I noticed that some (insert appropriate name) had reversed into my car and went on his/her way without leaving a note or other sign of his presence but the damage.
And yes I am 100% certain that this happened in the coles carpark while I was in doing my shopping. There is only one other way that this could have happened was If someone walked into my yard and perposely damaged my car. But if that was the case than why not do more damage. And I know that this did not happen while I was driving. So the carpark is the only excuse, that someone decided to reverse out and do some damage without takin responsiblity....... :jab: Now I am going to have to pay to fix damage to my car that I did not do and is hardly going to be worth calling insurance to pay over $400 excess for a job that will not cost much more than that..... ing_sm excuse the poor photos, came from my phone.

Do they have security cameras in the car park? You might be able to get a hold of the tape? Maybe???

Ouch! Sorry to see that. It happens all too often in Carparks. Hate it when someone does that and is not honest enough to leave a note:(

Thats just it, if they were honest enough to leave a note with contact details or stick around for 5 minutes (was only in there to get a few items) I would not be so annoyed and I would not have abused them. I am all for forgiveness if they are truely apologitic and willing to make amends. Heck I can even live with having to go without my car for the period when it gets fixed (only live 2ks from work and have access to other cars as well if worst comes to worst). What really is what I am most annoyed about is the fact that the person did not have the guts to admitt to his/her mistake and take responsiblity for it. I hope this person has a guilty mind for the rest of their lives knowing that they are a guttless wonder! (to put it bluntly and I could have put it worse). Just because I own a nice car does not mean I am an abuse idiot. And I am sure atleast half of this forum would not be as abusive (when they are in a similar situation as me) if people just owned up to their mistake.

oh and JMO, I will be looking into that tomorow when I am finished doing some overtime at work (will finish around 12). But I dont have to high of a hope. They do have security cameras in the store obviously but I dont know if the cameras would clearly see were I was parked. There are some bushs that may have blocked the view, maybe. Then there is the legal issue of coles management handing out numberplate licences (as unfair as it may be, it seems a distinct possibility that I still wont get the plate if it is noticable). However, should I get the offenders plate, I will go to the police to make a complant and track them down so I can get them to pay for the repairs.

Maybe ask the police to get the tape if you can't? They'll probably tell you to get lost. They'll most likely need a warrant or something (watching Law & Order does come in handy ).
Good luck with it. |

acutally, just got back from going down to coles and the police station. A employee of coles had spotted it happen and wrote down her number plate and just so happened to be about to walk out when I came into coles and enquired about it. So they gave me her number plate. So I went down to the police station and they contacted them for me (legality in giving the contact details to me directly without consent). Its a bit of a complicated story but story short it appears to have been the fault of the registered owners daugther. Eitherway, I will no longer be paying for the repairs. Will update as time goes on.

good result. i had a similar well almost exactly the same thing happen. luckily the other car was spotted by employees where it happened and the police were able to track him down, even with only partial i.d.
i left it in the hands of the police, they got him, he paid = car fixed. hope it all goes well for ya- and don't forget if your not happy with the repairs- keep harrrassing the panel shop who fixes it (or the other persons insurer). after all it's not your fault it got damaged.

so far the damage that I can make of it is just the crack from the impact of the tow bar and the bar maybe warped, judging from certain gaps where the bar meets the rest of the car... This should be all the damage. The company that I am going to take it to, I trust very well. My brother had a similar situation in his skyline and this company done a very good job on the repairs, first time.

Assuming the employee is a female, I reckon a bunch of flowers is in order. Also, get hold of a Coles feedback card and send in an official thanks, mentioning their name etc, etc to coles management.
All the very best with the repairs. GK

That is a very good idea Gk. Just one problem, the employee is an underage male. So flowers are out of the question and so is alcohol. I might just get him a $30 gift voucher at sanity or something so he can get a cd or dvd (or made even a few depending on what he wants). And filling in the coles feedback is a good idea as well. I was planning on giving them my thanks just way not to sure how, so thanks for the suggestions.
Also just a quick update (which reminded me to get on here). I just had a talk to the actuall lady who done the damage. She called me up (the cops had passed on my number). She was very apologitic. I did not abuse her as she does not need the abusing. After all she addmitted her mistake and is going to make amends for it. So all in all, my mood has change from one of anger to one of crap happens! Just so long as I am not the one to pay for the damages and I can have a bundy at the end of the day, I will not be going out like a raging bull.

good stuff- it's easy to be angry and get fired up when it first happens- and most of it is because they rarely stick around or supply details.
but in the end the car can be fixed, (hell when mine got fixed the new paint job was better than the first and i got a few scrapes underneath fixed for free too).

Still sucks that it had to come about that way. Just think if that employee was not there, then she would probably not be apologetic!
Moral decency is just no longer evident. This same thing has happened to 3 of my friends within the last 8 months except there has not been anyone around to witness. At least it turned out good for you mate!

the fault of the registered owner's daughter.
i love being sexist on forums because its practically anonymous but my god, the number of shitty driving i see from females in general in carparks is abysmal. yes, its genetically true that women have worse spatial awareness than men, fine, but that doesnt mean that they should even try to get away with damaging another person's property like this. id have still been pretty damn angry but at the end of the day youve got to temper yourself, at least until you get the money right! that and she no doubt wouldve got an earbashing from her parents for being dishonest and deceitful. keep in mind that she's probably up for an unlisted driver excess and an under-25 excess so the incentive to not leave a note is pathetically high! fact of the matter is, she tried to get away with it which means that her apologies were highly conditional...i.e. worthless. definite reward for the coles employee are in order. nobody's going to sue you if you get him a bottle of beam (thats if he's 17, if he's 15 then yeah probably irresponsible :p) when my sister learns to drive i think i'll teach her in my car because then she'll simply be too scared to damage it! whereas with my dad's car she probably wouldnt care less. this way hopefully she can become a better, more spatially aware driver and not cause annoying damage like what happened to the OP. but at the end of the day because us males do 5kph over the limit we somehow deserve higher insurance premiums and excesses. :( sorry about the long rant!

it ****es me off how many people cant drive safely in a carpark. a guy driving a company car reversed into me a few months ago when i was driving and he promised that everything will be sorted out. they never called me and everytime i tryed to call them they said they would get onto fixing it but it never happened. i ended up getting a quote for 3000$ damage and faxed it to them and said that they had to fix it as it wasnt my fault. i got a call from the boss of the company a few days later saying that the driver had given a different story to mine and nothing will be done to fix my car. It was my word against his. it ****es me off that you have to pay for someone elses mistakes, some people just dont know how to drive properly. And dont get me started on people who slam there car doors into your car at carparks.
good to hear that you got everything sorted out mate.

sanjay, thou I agree that women can be bad drives, I know for a fact that males can be just as bad. Also, this women has told me she has two children, thou she sounds young, I would say just going of her voice she could be anywere between early 20s to maybe 30 something. Bit hard to tell by voice.
Also went to see a panel beater today and he quoted me $470 to repair. not as much as I expected but still enough. An yes she is insured.
