Default Surging idle

My AU has an annoying problem... When idling it is surging real bad - up to 2000rpm in neutral. In 'D' at the lights its trying to overcome the brakes. Pretty dangerous in carparks etc. You can feel it also on the open road at 110kmh. A real pain in the ****. It isn't idling rough, and still pulls normal throughout the rev range (slowly haha)

Anyway I've heard it could be the idle control valve onto top of the intake manifold (I think). I took it off the other day and gave it a good spray with brake cleaner, still no difference. Is there a way to test if these are buggered (electrical)? Any other ideas/experiences?

I've sold the car, and am handing it over in a couple of days, and want to get it sorted before then, otherwise I might have to knock a few hundy off my price haha!

Cheers.

Hmm, I wish I could help you there, all I can do is put in a shameless bump for you :P

However could it be a fuel system issue? regulator or injectors or some such?

Sounds like a fueling issue, if its doing it both at idle and highway speeds. When was the fuel filter last changed? Might pay to throw a new one on.

Check for inlet manifold leaks at the font and rear of the manifold; the bolts tend to loosen and burn out the gasket (stick a length rubber of 2- 5 mm rubber tube in your ear and listen for a sucking sound when you put the other end under the inlet manifold at each end.
