Just got this from my uncle from NSW
Just thought I would send a few of the photos of the result of my trip to Coffs Harbor on Tuesday morning. Made a hell of a mess of the car, but miraculously walked away without a scratch - thank god I had no one else with me! Of the 6 air bags not one went off – so much for the Safety features – but Ssangyong say something to do with G forces and sudden stop to send them off You can see the conditions were pretty ordinary, rain , fog, come around this 65k corner and tyres lost grip and plowed into the embankment and rolled over a couple of times. Luckily landed back on the wheels and just opened the door and got out. Anyway is good to be still around |

The roof really suffered under the weight of the car by the looks of it, you are a lucky lad.

Airbags (front ones) will only go off, in frontal collisions. Doesn't look like much of a frontal impact, and any side bags again only in side on collisions. Again the sides don't look too damaged.
You don't want an airbag going off at you unnecessarily. They're calibrated so that they'll only go off if the damage they'll do to you (possible broken face/ribs, hearing damage, burns - remember they are set off with an explosive) will be less than what would happen if they didn't. But good news on being able to walk away.

That's right. When I wrote off my BF F6 the left front hit the rock wall and the left front and side airbags went off but the right didn't as there was only minor impact on that side. |

If you have a reversed Ssangyong logo on your forehead I'd be asking questions. But the accelerometers that deploy the airbags are set for extremely sudden stoppages.

You have got to be kidding??? Not one scratch??? It's a testimate to the vehicle itself that it didn't need airbags to keep you alive.

You are alive without a scratch on you, so obviously there was no need for the airbags to deploy.

Things happen so quickly and apart from how much you move in your seat, your body stretches into impossible shapes in an impact, could have easily been a head under that big dent :( |

If you walked away - why should the airbags go off? EVERYTIME someone has an accident they say "I am ok but the car" but oh no the bags didn't go off. Well there was no need to was there if you walked away. They are designed to go off in a SERIOUS accident with extreme G forces not just any binge.

at the risk of getting flamed, to me it says you weren't exactly driving to the conditions.
also the percentage of single vehicle accidents and rollovers involving 4wd's is a damning statistic. you are lucky to be alive. take it as a lesson learned! |
