Wanted to know if anybody has knowledge of both Bana's red XB and the other guy from tasmania that showed his XB (was in pretty average condition at the time), and if they have been rebuilt/restored.
If you are not following me, one of Bana's mates wanted to buy this XB from the bloke but he refused to sell it as it was 'priceless'. Thats the XB I'm on about. At the end of the film, it said that both cars have plans to be re built. Cheers.

great DVD, but no mention in the press or Banas web site as to when it willl be restored. Just imagine the 3000 man hours it took to build the first time so who know the time this time around to straighten her

BTW, I hope Mrs Bana hasn't talked Eric's dad into getting rid of his Ford. The old mans face came alive when that car started up.

What I don't get is, apparently it hadn't been driven for 10 years, yet it clearly had a registration sticker on it.

If the floor pan, fire wall, chassis rail and turret are all out of shape then it's game over. Sure they can replace bits and pieces but then it's not the SAME car, it's a Frankenstein.

Sure they can replace bits and pieces but then it's not the SAME car, it's a Frankenstein. So what, there are not many old cars out there that are all original anymore. That just looks like a little scratch to me, some tlc and a few $$$ and its all good to go. |

I actually got to meet Eric Bana and I asked him what happened with his Dad's car. He has actually bought it and is taking care of it. As for his XB it is in storage and he is looking to restore it.
He has stated this at the Nova Cinema in Melbourne in front of many people....take out of that what you will. That is what I know though...

There was interview with him somewhere, can't remember where, Eric was saying he would rebuild, but wants to be hands on as much as possible. He said he is flat out with movies for the next 18 months or so and the car will have to wait until after that.
At leats he'll have plenty more money to do something great with it. :evil3:

I didn't take it that way at all. In fact it added just how loyal and loving people are towards their cars no matter what condition.

I got this DVD for Christmas. I have seen it about 8 times since then and never get tired of it. I love it. I have even tried to get an email address for Eric Bana to say thanks for making this Doco. I really felt a connection to the story. I don't think any person who has a passion for cars could watch this doco and not think "jeez that was me at one point" It is inspirational, it makes me want to go for a drive, or look through the tool box.
I reckon Clarkson, Leno and Dr Phil all added aspects of understanding to the doco, that I could relate to and explained things to me and also that "non-car people" could watch this and think, "so thats why there is a passion for that old pile of junk in the yard!" I think the importance Darryl, with the other coupe, is that it proves it doesn't matter whether you are a hollywood actor, or a bloke from Tasmania, real passion does not discriminate and money can't buy what the heart won't sell. And if Eric did fund the resto of the other coupe, my hat goes off to him. Just a damn good movie/doco, and if you read this site Eric, thanks. |

Did anyone else have the 1977 Moffat 1-2 finish wallpaper in their bedrooms? The start of the movie where he describes how that finish molded his love for the coupes is exactly how it effected me.
Seeing the movie makes me want to get one all over again. He definitely needs to fix it.
