Starting in February 2009, a very small group of people held "tea parties" across the U.S. in a supposed attempt to protest the policies of Barack Obama - the movement just grew from there.

I don't really know if it's ultra peaceful form of protest imagined, or more along the lines of a Boston style Tea Party. I can't imagine the former doing any good, even if it were somewhere where it slightly impeded pedestrian traffic at the motor show (which is about the most I reckon it could achieve).

Mulally is cashing in on the fact that a lot of people were buying ford products as an in your face way of telling your Gov that you are unhappy with them as giving loans to those that cannot repay ( or deemed never will ), so he is just reminding the US public of the bailout.

It's knife edge stuff sponsoring a Tea Party protest though. If the sentiment is widespread enough it will be a popular move. If enough egotistical reporters get hold of some sort of 'big corporate anti-spin' angle it could go sour.

If it were in Australia at the moment we know it would definitely go bad, as the media always seem to want to dish crap on local manufacturers, with Ford now getting the most of it following the demise of Mitsubishi.
