I am watching the National Service Memorial Dedicational Service. Great to see this memorial to our Nasho's, I served alongside these blokes( infantry), and found them to uphold the highest traditions of our armed forces in Vietnam.. Good on Ya boys..

Great thread. Regardless of what the Maoist's and the Moratoriums said, they did what was asked of them and in most cases, much much more.

A long time coming. Australia should always be proud of those that serve no matter what we amy think of the politics behind the deployment of our service personnel, they do a hard job and everybody forgets about the other side of the coin of deployments, the medical and food relief provided by ADF personnel and the reconstruction that is done by the engineers etc.
I take my hat off to all those serving and to those that have served. |

You know what makes me sick, back when the Vietnam war vets came back from the war, the Australian public took disgust to them and threw things at them, etc. They didn't get recognised until recently for what they did, I'm sure if all the people complaining and throwing things had served with them, they'd be offended if someone did the same to them. Lots didn't even have a choice and got conscripted in and some of those didn't come back.
Bring in national service and conscription so everyone has to do it, easy to sit on the sidelines and create hassles when you've never experienced the horrors. |

Well done those men, my hat goes off to the old nashoe's, they had no choice and served our country with pride and honor
i think everyone here should be required to serve for a year within 4 years of finishing school. i think it would sort out alot of young fellas and give them something to be proud of. |

I wasn't born at the time and my schooling history let me down. My knowledge of the 'nasho's' is that they were enlisted young, served their duty to an extent that would make any aussie proud; yet when they returned the were ignored and even shunned? Don't know what the hell is up with that, but from what I saw on the news, some small fountain was a memorial? Great notion, dont get me wrong, but hell. More effort is put into bronzing AFL 'legends'.... I think we have our priorities wrong.
