O2 sensors can be bought from any decent auto parts place for around $70-80, and really should be replaced ever 150,000kms or so. The O2's sensor can have an impact on idle quality but idle surge is more common with ISC, wrongly set base idle or TPS issues. If you clean out the ISC, just use some silicon gasket maker instead of the gasket.

Hey EDXR8...

Can you explain to me what you mean by 'Idle Surge'?

I get an odd surge in my EL Wagon.....quite often after lifting off the throttle, say just before taking a corner in town, the revs drop back to normal, then I get a small 'surge' about the time I 'brake' to turn. It only happens when on the move.

Is this what you mean by 'Idle Surge'?

I have also had an economy issue with this vehicle, especially around town. I asked the local dealer to check the o2 senser but they told me it was ok....

Maybe this would explain the surge as well as the economy?

Idle surge is normally caused by either ISC or incorrectly set base idle. Instead of the ISC controlling the idle which is the best way, the EEC uses timing which can cause the surge (which is an unsteady idle, sort of bounces up and down). The first steps would be to clean the ISC and set the base idle properly. O2's could also cause issues and its hard to diagnose unless they totally fail.
