Great, just another reason to make highway patrol even more egotistical.

They should be using Camrys and 380s.

By far the ugliest car ever made in aus... you woulda thought the fashion police would pulled them up on that purchase before it ever went through...

How could you ever get caught? You see them coming from any direction...

The idea is to use the car's as a deterrent, rather then going stealth and booking people for doing 3 km over the posted limit. I do agree with it also. the sheer presence of a law enforcement vehicle slows every one down, and this car will be no exception. motorist are going to be shyting in the pants when they see this police car, because it is loaded up with all the latest gadgets and the police are making it well known that it will be out in force.

Umm they are highway patrol cop cars dude.
Which means most of their purpose will be to pursue speeding vehicles on the highway, not detain people on the street.
So take a few calm pills and sit down.

What happens if they pull up someone driving a stolen car or they're caught drink driving or whatever and end up being detained?

They don't actually sit around waiting for another cop car to show up, do they? :

Do they drift?

Rather spew inducing really. What the smeg is the deal with the "high visibility" objective when the same cannot be said for speed cameras? hmmm

I heard they have plenty of this in the boot just in case of emergency. (My crappy attempt at humor).

Yeah, they were originally meant for surveillance and undercover operations, see http://www.peterbeattieeatsbobcarrsmember.com.au , but they sounded too much like a diesel on startup and kept slappin all the way to redline.

The fact that they chose those cars in those colours just goes to confirm the redneck theory.
They are gonna pose a problem of unscrupulous lawyers getting their clients out of hotwater with claims of police brutality when they try and put anyone in the back seat. Really, its the wrong tool for the job. There is a valid reason as to why police predominantly have sedans you know. Just a typical arrogant labor state government wasting taxpayers money on window dressing, whilst it allows essential services like hospitals to be eroded away to nothing.

(If you think I'm bitter then you should try living in NSW under the czars Carr and Iemma - they are so fuct that popular opinion denotes that their 2007 slogan will be "NSW LABOUR - we've got what it takes to take what you've got").

They look pretty crap, as for being caught now, more chance of not being caught as these stand out like dogs balls. Any self respecting toggie would prefer Q car anyday.

Just reminds me of that GTO coupe the Melbourne TMU used to get around it. Holden must have had a special on Monaros.........

No Need to worry about being booked for speeding by these guys, they will cheat by flashing the strobes at every half decent Ford on the street then as you are slowing down they will floor it straight past screaming we won we won ! And then they will follow you and smash into then book you for having an EGO !!

I saw 2 of these red Monaro police cars yesterday. Yes there presents on the road is powerfull. you could see the nose of the cars coming from the opposite direction diving as they hit the brakes when they saw the hi vis cop car. The funny thing was, none of the cars that were braking appeared to be exceeding the posted limit.

Also be on the look out for a Acid rush GT-P (no stripes). It is a unmarked police car also. Saw it today cruising along the M1 at Yatala... We cruised beside it for about a Kay ( I was the passenger so I got a good look at it), and it had all the cop gear inside of it......
