Default Quick maf question

Have seen a lot of cars here that do not use a maf in their air intake, how does the car run without it, and is there something you have to replace to run without it....

The inline 6 engine does not use MAF sensor - they base air flow calculations on manifold pressure (MAP sensor) and throttle position (TP sensor or TPS)

Most aftermarket computers (in fact, all except MOTEC) use a MAP (manifold pressure) and throttle position to calculate air entering the engine. This is known as speed density.

I think its popular within the LS1 edit camp (these engines come with MAFs IIRC) to remove the MAF and install a MAP to tune.

I know absolutely nothing about the BA V8 engines but EB - AU V8s run a MAF

Thanks for explaining that, basically couldnt understand the concept of "with" or "without" being a pickup sensor for ecu.
Cheers Kevin

I thought all Ford engines now use a MAF and it was far more accurate way to measure air intake.

It's even easier than that Martin, the gen III actually has a MAP fitted to the rear of the manifold, so they only have to remove the MAF and tune it in speed density.
