Default What really grinds my gears!

Ya know what really grinds my gears!?
I was driving home tonight down Wellington Rd, nearing the Princes, had a grid at the traffic lights with an SS, he was giving me the 'look' saying 'come on mate, let's go'... I didn't and watched him fang off, same scenario happened at the next set of lights, again, I didn't give him anything. Pull up side by side at the third set of lights, and have a peek across to think what a ****** this bloke is... to my surprise and disgust, it was an unmarked cop car, no doubt the muppet would've pulled me over if I responded to his drag racing taunts.

What a low life coppa!

GRRRRRRRR!

A cop provoking someone to offend hoping to find some extra revenue. If this is what these cops are up to, then it's a good reminder not to drag race anyone on a public road, especially if you don't know who they are.

I thought that was entrapment or something? Imagine if you had agreed to drag, then killed someone mid race before the other vehicle identified itself as a Police car. Forgive me, but I don't think it'd be a Police car.....I just can't see how they can do that without getting into hot water themselves.

Simple6 is correct. They are not allowed to provoke unlawful action and catch you out for it. That is dirty and cheap and the law (for once) recognizes this behavior. You may not get away scott free but the poor old copper would get a bit of a hounding from his boss and his bosses boss

"But the cop provoked me to commit crime."

Police officers baiting civilians into commiting crime is illegal.

And guess what, if you're stupid enough to do so you deserve it.

Don't know how many times I read these type of threads in the 7 odd years I've been a member here, but there is no entrapment law in Australia.

Done, dusted.

Isn't that "furious acceleration" or "unnecessary something-or-other"...?

People used to joke that the sped limit is 60, but there's no rule saying how fast you're allowed to get there..well there is unfortunately...I know as I got a chat when on my old 750 triple Kawasaki when it was last on the road in the late nineties. Sitting at a red light, old girl was spluttering a bit as it hadn't had a good highway run for a while, light went green, gave it a big burst across the intersection up to sixty k's in first gear to clear the pipes...an hadn't noticed there was a cop car sitting beside me back at the intersection. Pulled me over, gave me a chat about excessive acceleration, let me go with a warning.
Not sure if he could have fined me or not, but I just said thanks, and went on my way...

Talk about jumping to conclusions. Maybe the cop just wanted a brief squirt to the speed limit. Might be a revhead outside of business hrs, u never know.

This has happened to me. I should have been in trouble! but the cop ended up putting on lights and sirens after being along side on a freeway and hitting the handbrake and off in the opisite direction at a 1000 knots.

What gets me, is that those who I have had traffic light duels with before, never give any indication of 'baiting'. It's a bit of a dead give away TO ME if some fool is overtly acting like a 'tool' in an attempt to get you to race. I'm glad you never fell for it.

I have been guilty of being at the lights in the past with some knob wad wanting to have a go, ....then I pick up the revs, lights go green, then just take your time off the line & let said knob wad look like a tool for tying on his own
