Hi all
Currently have a 5.0 5 speed AU2 ute. Toying with the idea of converting it to an auto , mainly so I can go and have a bit more fun with it at the drags without punishing a manual box. Ive done plenty of auto to manual conversions before and am very handy on the spanners but its the electrical side of things Im not sure of here. I understand I will need an auto ECU but what other wiring in the dash , ECU to box etc will I be needing to get it up and running? I know that transmission control is in the ECU unlike the E series V8's. Any pointers appreciated. Cheers |

There's a small section of loom that goes from the engine bay wiring back to the auto box, that's about it. Manual is a bit more complicated because it has the wiring going from the engine bay, through the right quarter panel all the way to the footwell for the clutch sensor etc

Have you sourced an auto mate? I have a xr8 ute auto and want to convert it to manual.
Where are you located? |

Auto's are less fun everywhere except 2 hours of bumper to bumper traffic. As for punishment, the drag strip punishes everything, including automatic transmissions. There's plenty of people here who have run very good numbers for a long time with a manual. All you may need is a beefier clutch. Quote:
