hi guys i ve got a bit of a problem when my a/c is on. (im guessing when it kicks in) sitting at lights usually, the idle first goes up and if ya not on the ball it can throw ya forward, but then it tries to stall (sometimes does). when i bought it the guy said it just had some work on the a/c im guessing because of this. I dont want to take it to an auto elec just yet because i like my arms and legs just where they are for now!!! Thanks in advance for any help

Search for idle problems. Could be the idle speed control which can be checked with a meter. Also saw a post about cleaning it. Maybe sticking. Or the MAP. Or cable connectors.
My local library has the manual which I borrow, or they will get a copy from another library. Copied this from someones post. Another thing is check the voltage output of your TPS. Pin 47 on ECU (1Vclosed throttle) and (4.5Vopen throttle). It needs to be on 1V on closed throttle, mine was on 0.6V and it made the ISC do wierd things at start up( high revs intially then the car would sometimes drive itself and stay at 1500rpm. Loosen screws and turn to get 1Volt. Think it can be checked at the idle control |

Has your battery been disconnected recently by any chance? If so, you will need to go through the ECU re-learn process. Takes all of about 5 mins.

isnt it when the battery is disconnected for 6 or 8 hours ( cant remember for how long) you just reconnect the battery and it should teach itself after a few minutes.

When the battery is disconnected any longer than a minute or 2 (IME), the ECU "forgets" the parameters it learns over time that differs from car to car.
Symptoms are poor running and/or poor idle. You are supposed to go through a procedure to set the TPS, idle speed and other factors that the ECU uses for daily running. Procedure should be carried out when coolant temp is at operating temperature. Ensure all uneccessary electrical loads are OFF - radio, lights, demister etc. 1. Idle car in P A/C off for 1 min 2. Idle car in D A/C off for 1 min 3. Idle car in P A/C on for 1 min 4. Idle car in D A/C on for 1 min 5. Turn engine off - but leave ignition ON (motor not running) 6. Hold the accelerator pedal to the floor for 1 min (sets the TPS) 7. Turn off - all done. Can't remeber the difference for manual transmissions but should be over at fordmods.

Thanks to EA1191 - recent posting helped me with a similar problem.
My ea started at rough idle and eventually went to undrivable. It wouldn't idle, revs up and down all over the place. After searching all the forums and talking to everyone who owns an e series I finally nailed it. Straight to the point Dodgy MAP sensor. (Black box on the firewall with an electrical connection and a vacuum connection) Do you know anyone that you can try borrowing the MAP sensor and see how that works? This way you can eliminate this sensor as the problem. |
