Hmm...
Twice over the last two days, my auto has gone into limp home mode while driving the car. In both instances this has occurred after driving for about 25km. However I have done two 30km trips between these two instances where it did not go into limp home mode. If I pull over, turn off the car & then start up again, the problem is gone! Has anyone else experienced this? It has occurred while I have been driving normally, no heavy acceleration or anything (honest) : I am not due for a tranny service, time-wise or km-wise for another year. -Dave- |

damn 4.11's! get a manual, no limp home mode there unless you break some cogs :P

What would the different ratio have to do with the auto though (is there a history of this with other 4.11ers)? Its shift behaviour is still the same when compared to the 3.27s. However under WOT from standing takeoff it's much more aggressive on the 1-2 change.
I have not had limp-home occur from abuse or heavy acceleration, and both these times were honesetly while driving normally! |

Well I'll tape up the shift kit connectors & stuff it under the console (tomorrow arvo after work). If the problem goes, I'll let the thread die. I doubt it's the shift kit though coz it's been like that already for so long!

Honestly Ill suggest TPS? mine did it occasionally for a while cause of it.
Oh and Ghia's use Ghia parts :P get that Gli deck out of your car!

My EB2 V8 Ghia did that once or twice. It ended up being a poor earth from the battery. Simple solution was to run some heavy guage wire from the battery to a new earth point on the inside of the right front fender. Funny thing is, no other system in the car seemed to be affected - just the auto. Give it a shot - it certainly won't hurt to have the extra earth anyway. In fact my XR8 has one from the battery to one of the alternator bolts as well as the usual battery to block.

I'll also call TPS, I had a Territory do exactly the same thing to me last week for a TPS, sounds suspect.

Oh - try the inhibitor switch as well. Mine was playing up til a week ago. A clean out of the contacts (using WD40, I guess) and it's all good now. Not that mine went into limp home mode at all, just kept hunting for gears.

I had a similar problem couple years back, the issue was; the transducer on the trans was blocked and/or clogged, it wasn't connecting correctly and required replacing.
If you have someone with a diagnostic PC, get them to plug it up and it will tell you what fault code it's throwing out.
