Well after all the help I have gotten here over the years I thought it was time I gave something in return. I always try to give things ago myself (even if it means pestering people on MSN, sorry Dellboy, NZ, EFFalcon, john_xr6, initialD etc!!!!)
A year or two ago there was no way I would attempt changing springs or shocks by myself.... But I've accumulated tools over time and thought "why not?" So after reading some manuals and getting advice from the aforementioned I finally decided to change my shocks the other week. I did it fairly quick for the first time, and even quicker the next - if I do say so myself!! :Reverend: Here is a PDF file, it's long and aimed at amateurs like myself who don't know what anything looks like until you've been shown/told, so it IS very basic. Firstly, it's 4.30am so I am dead tired and there are probably a lot of errors, and I'm sure people have their own ways but this worked for me and it's easy. If there are mistakes, or I have mislabelled things, please tell me so I can fix it up. I am still not 100% certain on a couple of things, but hopefully this is good enough for the time-being. And like mentioned on the last page, I hold absolutely no responsibility. It is a guide how I changed my shocks. Hope it helps someone... And if it does, I might be inclined to make one on simple things ie. brake pads, coolant, oil (hey, once I never knew how :P), trip computer, S-pac cluster, and a detailed head gasket one if I get this EF fixed LOL! Cheers

Good on ya Luke! I'm like you, when I first joined the club I wouldn't of been able to change a spark plug! Now I've got the tools and knowledge to tackle stuff like brake rotors/pads, springs/shocks etc. Keep these guides coming mate.

Very nice matey. I agree, it's great to have a go at things yourself. Good tut on the springs/shocks!

And also, just confirming that this does apply to EF and EL too. Will it be the same procedure with ABS?

Luke, how much did the Konis set you back? And where do you get them from?

rears are **** easy.
jack up diff, support chassis with axle stands, undo watts link mounts (not center one) undo bottom shock bolts, lower diff remove plastic cover inside car, use a rattle gun (or manual blood, sweat and tears) to undo the top nut, and drop the shock out... put the new shock in, do the top nut up, jack the diff back up and bolt everything back together... it's just as easy to put some superlow's in while your at it, lol

Guys, can someone "pro" please inform me whether to do any particular bolts up when the car is actually on the ground?? I don't want this tutorial to bugger up anyone's ride.

As a general rule, anything bushed, do it up on the ground. You have to tighten them with the bush in the neutral position, tightening them stretched will flog them out.

Hey thanks for that tutorial xrated, I just came into posession of some superlows last week and luckily found your advice right after that. I followed it right through! I've got the superlows sitting on the std shocks for now till I can get some lowered ones and they seem to be holding up fine. Once again, Thanks for that!
