Default Replacing ECU

Does anyone know what the deal is with replacing your ECU?
Is it a matter of just changing them over or do you just get your engine remapped?

why do you feel it needs to be replaced ??

basically though, just disconnect the battery, remove the old one, plug the new one in, reconnect battery, start the car, then go for a drive and simulate as many different conditions as possible, in gear, out of gear, with and without a/c on etc.

I think there was a thread on here a while ago detailling the correct procedure to get an ECU to relearn the engine.

Do a search for it, failing that, google it.

I was thinking about replacing it because i've heard that it can do quite a bit for your car. But as you can tell my knowledge in this area is limited to none.
My ED is stock, would putting an XR ECU in it change much?

You will gain a little by putting in an XR ECU but not much, however if you add to that extractors, 2.5" cat back exhaust and at least an XR cam or better then you will see a very nice improvement.

Thanks mate, might have to wait to change insurance companies. My current one gave me the big NO NO, apparently 17" rims are a mod these days.

I found RACQ were the only ones who would insure me for under $3500 for a stock EL XR6. Im paying $1100 p/a

and they know about every mod i have done. what they dont know wont hurt them, but will hurt you when they decline a claim, and withdraw there cover when you most need it.

Was thinking about doing all my mods under the blanket, but if i smash it i'll get bent over by em.
Try checking out Just Car insurance, not bad. Any mods just as long as they are legal.
I'm with AAMI and only get one mod.

I can remember when 16's were a mod.

If you have done some mods as EA2BA said then you will get a small benefit from the ECU change.

So i'm assuming that the last thing i would do is get my ECU changed. Get all the other gear first. What mod gives the best power increase?

boost.

Seriously, it's the correct combo of mods, rather than a single mod, which gives a good power boost.

ECU change is good if there is a reason to do so.

if you've got a couple engine mods, then go ahead with an XR ecu equivalent of what you've got.

i read in street fords that an EF ecu is a worthy upgrade.
