How are two engines put together, like the V12 LS1, Aston Martin V12 ( two ford duratecs), Deevel V16 etc are they welded with a bespoke crank/ camgear? or does the block have to be made from scratch?
Call me an idiot but today I'm fantasising about the idea of a Retrotech XK Falcon with two 1.0 Ecoboost blocks fused together to make a 2.0-litre inline 6 and some kind of freevalve camless running gear, MX-5 6-speed manual converted to run on column shift and a GKN rear diff like the Focus RS. I always have the coolest ideas! |

The LS1 V12 is welded and sleeved, the AM V12's were new casts.
You're particular idea wouldn't work, you would need to take a pair of I4's and cut a front/rear off respectively. |

I have often wondered if you could graft two Barras together to make a 8.0lt V12?

Somebody made a Toyota V12 from 2 I6's so it's possible, but I'm sure it's harder

Triumph welded two slant 4 cylinder engines together to create this so it can be done... however if this example is anything to go by, it shouldn't be done. |

i never saw then run but i saw pics of the builds....imagine a 1000cc 2 stroke!!

I've heard their general build quality was hit and miss. I don't know first hand though, I have no interest in that type of car. |

Detroit Diesel V12 and V16 engines (149 ci per cylinder) were made of two V6 or V8 engines. Two blocks and cranks bolted end to end, eight cams, two cam drives, one water and fuel pump.

i believe the hyabusa (Suzuki road bike) engine was chopped up and joined back together to make a 2.6 v8, and then was the inspiration behind the early Arial atom v8 with 500bhp.
didn,t jack bratham build a v8 from two peugeot four cylinder engines? to the op, would the cranks hold up? |

That would be the ultimate weapon. 400kw, 900nm naturally aspirated or 550kw, 1200nm of torque with standard boost. Simple to service, maintain and using normal engine oil and fuel. Where do I sign? Would probably be more powerful and durable than a Bugatti Veyron W16 engine, maybe even more economical too.
