Hey guys had a bit of a bingle and whacked the kerb pretty hard at about 40 kays and damaged front bar aswell.

Took off to drive home and noticed that the front right wheel is about 5cm back furthur than where it should be and the alignemnt is like 20 degrees out. Also because the tyre is pushed back, lock to lock is not achievable. The left side is in the normal position however. What am i looking at here new steering rack? swaybar??? whats bent thats causing it to sit so far back???

Thanks George

i had one like that was wet and drifting and the front wheels slide into a gutter at bout 40 kays and smashed my front mag in 2 and popped the steering rack tie rod ends into the rack. yours sounds like lower control arm is bent

(this was in my last eb which was a slow auto 3.9 series 1)

I did the same thing in my lancer, understeered coming into a roundabout in the wet one night and collected the gutter.

Broken control arm and bushes? Wheel was pushed back and scrubbing the guard. Was a nightmare to get home...

I've seen the same thing in an EA. Needed a lower control arm, radius rod, new rack and i think a new shock but unsure on that.

Id say you could be up for a bit of dosh mate... Steering rack i'd say will be stuffed, well at least the tie rod. Looking about $300 + fitting (fully reco).

I'd be suprised if you did bend the sway bar though... I've seen some cars that have hit kerbs pretty hard, and sway bars are ok.

I'd also say your frame would be bent, and your radius rod is bent aswell. Might have damaged your lower control arm too...

Get it in somewhere to get it checked out. Pedders does a $14 28 point safety check, which will give you a good idea of whats wrong.

Cheers
Matt

im pretty sure the turning cirlce is the same, e-series have crap turning circles. the main difference is the way the intermediate shaft bolts up to the steering rack.

Damn that sucks. I went over a median strip about the same speed. Only ripped off two tyres from the rims. I took it to Pedders and there was nothing wrong

I did a similar thing a while ago in my EF. The bare minimum that needs to be replaced will be the lower control arm, radius rod and stub axle. Have a look under the bonnet, with impacts at such a high speed, its not hard to push the inner guard apart from the rest of the car, which will throw alignment out as well. There's also a fairly big chance the K-frame is bent.

Quote:

It's possible, you might have just bent the K-frame, if you bent the chassis, you would be able to see it when you open the bonnet, the inner guards will have been torn away from the body where they're glued/spot welded on.

where are you looking at the k frame from? If its from the front you might be comparing it to the lower support which is closer to the k frame on one side.

mate...

They only do that so that they aren't held liable in case you have an accident after leaving there. Unfortunatley we now live in a time where everyone and anyone will sue someone for there own stuff up if given the chance.

Its just a matter of covering there own backs.

I actually work there (hopefully don't cop too much ИИИИ) and can say that we do actually know our stuff!

Good luck nonetheless...

Dude I agree, that sounds like one for the pros. Might have to get the whole front end aligned at a panel beater.

If you need steering rack I will sell you one cheap cheap.
