Oh of course.. the RX8 is no touch on its predecessors but in the spirit of the original criteria...

I had an apprentice who had saved up 8k for his 1st car. His parents said theyd match the 8k but they chose the car. So if he took the deal he would get a 16k car. The only bargaining chip he had was it had to be a manwell. I knew this blokes dad from working on site with him and in his dads words, he drove like a dick. So his parents being wise towards safety chose a then newish 4 door toyota yaris yrs, so the 1.5L with a manwell. Yeah 16k is above the criteria of this thread. The young bloke didnt crash it. He did however blow the clutch. He did the same in one of the work vans. Only a few weeks after that van got fixed he hit 2 cars in it. So his dad wasnt wrong, the kid drove like a dick. So taking over was probably a smart parenting move by getting him something small and safe.
I didnt think i would, but after a week in a 1.3L yaris courtesy car, i like them. Yeah they're slow, but so convenient when it comes to parking.

Reminds me of when I was about 20 I was out looking for my next car.. I was all over VT SS at the time. I also looked at R33 and R34 Skylines. Once Dad got involved, I ended up in an auto Lancer coupe.

I nearly ended up with an R34 Skyline, the four door naturally aspirated job, but it sold a few days before I went back to buy it to the JDM dealership in Fawkner

Ended up buying a new WS Fiesta CL

I've still got it, paint is absolutely halal.

When I was 17, I was looking at a 76 Maserati Merak that a Used car dealer we did work for had in his yard, it was $9800, bank said no, so ended up buying a $#!t metalic brown 318 auto VK wagon for $1200, I wasted some tyres in that thing , still would have preffered the Merak (only for the chick pulling capacity, the old Val was a deterrent)
