Default Turbo Fez

hey guys, i thought you guys would probably know more about this than the Fez owners, im doing some research in regards to getting a Turbo installed on my little 1.6ltr Fez, its got 74Kw but looking for 130+. i have a small understanding in regards to that i need forged internals, extractors, full exhaust system, ECU re-vamp, obviously the Turbo and the intercooler and CAI.... just looking for your input, any specifics could u name also how much do u guys think ill be up 4.??????????????? also any idea on an AWD conversion just to throw into the Mix, ANd yes i undersstand this is MAJOR DOUGH!!!!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Fez = Festiva? Not sure.. Probably not from your avatar

I'll say it right from the start.. You're generally better of doing an engine conversion rather than putting a turbo on a engine that isn't made for it.

In SA there was a Mazda 121 (same B6 engine as a 1995ish Festiva) that had a BPT conversion done to it.. 180fwkw or something? Anyway the guy crashed it.. and i'm using a drivers side mount off it LOL.

Unless you've got tens of thousands of dollars for custom AWD work don't even think about looking into it. It costs about 3k to do a FWD to AWD Laser conversion and that's including ALL the parts and the bloke doing it himself.. Lot's of work involved.

Anyway got any *specific* questions?

best to do is to call a couple of shops. an engine rebuild with a balanced crank forged rods and forged pistons will be big dollars as the rods and pistons will probably have to be custom made. a member with a turbocharged falcon paid 2400 for a set of 6 custom rods. for the bottom end id say leave at least 5-7k thats assembled with custom rods and pistons, balanced etc. the bottom end only accounts for reliabilty no power is to be had here.
for the top half to get some decent performance youll need to port the head and may need bigger valves. you also may need a custom short runner, large plenum intake manifold with a bigger throttle body stuck to it. if the fez is fly by wire a large throttle body wont be cheap if its cable driven you should be able to source an xf throttle body. for head work intake manifold and throttle body i would leave about ~1800

the turbo itself should be able to be had for under 1000 (~t3 size) and a custom exhaust manifold will have to be made up leave $500 for the manifold. Leave $500 clear for a wastegate if the turbo you get isnt internally gated.

A decent intercooler can be had for about $500 and custom pipe work may cost upwards of $500. add $100 for a pod filter, and $300 for a bov

Stainless mandrell bent exhaust turbo back ~1200
add a fuel pump (300 odd) adjustable reg (150-300) injectors (about 450) and maybe even bigger fuel lines
Standalone ecu with a custom tune ($2500+)
This setup would be the ducks guts though and would probably be capable of handling 20psi and would blow away your 130kw goal

for a cheap easy setup a bolt on turbo would do fine as long as you dont go too happy on boost. this will rely on how strong the standard internals are and the standard compression of the motor.
factor in gearbox work too becuase i dont like the chances of a stok box and cvs handling it.

also a drive in drive out custom bolt on turbo kit with fmic exhaust and all the goods is 8k+ anyway at a reputable shop (croydon race developments)

its a ford fiesta zetec. 1.6ltr enging with 74kw of power, Front wheel drive and im sure the compresion ratio is 11:1

thanks ruger, much help, very much appreciated, ill have to read through that and start calculating lol, hehehe, compression ratio is 11.1 and as u said, it will blow my 130KW goal away, what would i be looking at?? im also guessing that all these parts prices are rounded off, just a quick Q did u round up or down/??? lol, and how much do u think id be up for instilation.

installation is hard to say because with things like that theres always many many hidden costs. i always round up becuase its way too easy to blow a budget if you dont allow for the worst.
if you go for a forged bottom end youll have to go low comp becuase you couldnt run much boost on a 11:1 comp ratio otherwise youll melt something real quick.
for comparison they run 6-8 psi on a sss sr20 de with bolt on turbo.

have a chat to a few top places and see what they say.
out of a 1.6 id say 350flywheel hp is attainable.
its allllllllll about the money though.

give me a budget ill make some recomendations.

A guy in the UK has done a turbo conversion before and he was running stock internals and he was pulling 150kw (At the engine). The standards will hold up to 160kw before you start blowing rods.

Alot depends on the quality of your tune.

for 10k you wont really get more than a good bolt on turbo you might be able to fit in a new intake manifold too.

call your local places and get some quotes.
i know for a fact to build a stroker kited honda motor it costs no less than 7k just on internals and assembly (no head work cams or manifolds)

im planning on getting the CAMS from the UK. the Exhaust manifold and a performance CAT also a perfomance exhaust....i only have a custom one that makes sound atm...lol..also a CAI..thats stage one.... stage 2 is the turbo. and a ECU re-tune. im only looking at 166Kw at the fly wheel nothing major.

You really dont have much of an idea do you.

If you were to turbocharge, you wouldnt bother buying those extractors. because if you turbocharged you would need a custom made turbo manifold, a bigger cat and a bigger cat back.

You will not be getting 166kw out of the fiesta without spending alot of money, and to do it right you have to have some form of idea or braincell.

im sorry mitch that we do not all share your infinate knowlegde about such matters as these, for me this is a learning curve and i will learn about these things in time.. no need to be a pr1k about it just cause some one doesnt understand...a polite point me in the right direction would of been appreciated.
