dont worry, im not going to pull it apart and try and fix it, i just want to know what happened to it is all.
today when we went to use it, it made a Brrrrrrrrrrrr sound and pretty much didnt do anything that it was sposed to. all the functions work, it just doesnt heat anything. slapped a piece of cheese single in there for a minute and nothing happened to the cheese. i could have melted it quicker by breathing on it. so does it sound like a throw away job or is it repairable? any ideas why it isnt heating at all? |

probably cost more to repair than buying another one would. it's a throw away society!! That's why i just buy a new printer instead of replacing the ink, in all seriousness, it's the same cost.
New microwaves are cheap as, so far peace of mind i'd grab another one. Get a quote first though.

Sounds like magntron gone to god. Not worth fixing, dont waste the fuel it takes to drive it to the electrical repairers.
Throw it away and start again with a new one. You will be chowing down on ya kraft singles before you know it.

if it cant melt that...there IS a problem! i would have though a $250 LG microwave would have lasted a little longer than 5 years. we got a microwave when they first came out in 1980 or so, and its still going to this day! just a pity i gave it away to someone that needed it. |

All the experiences I've had with LG have been a bad one. Go with something with a reputable microwave history eg Panasonic
Also have a look at convection and grilling microwave/ovens. The one we have at home also has a rotissery in it! Cooks meatpies perfectly and in only 10 mins from frozen. |

We've had a Sharp Carousel for 12 years. Only problem EVER was the button that opens the door broke its spring, so we couldn't open it. But that's minor.
Electrically, nothing has ever gone wrong. |

so we went and bought another sharp carousel. :

I am an electronics technician by trade and often fix microwaves.
It sounds like your magnetron has probably had it and then caused the HV fuse to blow. Will it be worth doing - well that would depend. Take a look around at new ones to get a feel for the price of an equivalent one. Just don't get a no name brand - you get what you pay for - LG is OK Very rough quote off the top of my head would be $100-$150 SO if you can get a good equivalent one for $200 or so then i guess NEW one is the way to go.
