Guiness are fairly strict when it comes to record attempts.
All the footage I saw of the attempt, the car seemed complete.

Seems to have a bonnet and doors in this shot.

A few people are making comments that the car stuck is a reflection on the car.

That's not fair really.

A Ford would get stuck all the same. THe difference is the driver.
Now that you've seen this picture, I hope that none of you Ford Uties emulate.

I can honestly say from my point of view it could have been a ford, porsche or even a lada and it would have got the same reaction and i think its the same for pretty much everyone else here but i think the fact that the driver even admitted to attempting to impersonate one of the best and most famous holden V8 super car drivers\production landspeed record holder brings up the "holden driver" thing, i dunno about you but i cant say ive ever seen a ford driver or any other driver of a manufacturer besides holden trying to impersonate skaife. And to top it all off its a maloo ute.

as you said, the driver.

Ah yes, but the torque of the old 5.0 would have meant that even if he was stuck in 2nd he would have made it!

LOL, thats a crack up, would be so embarrassing.

Exactly what I was thinking!!!

I it would be an absolutely perfect example of the 'ohnosecond' - The exact moment when you realise that a situation changed from 'seemed like a good idea at the time' to being one really big mistake!

that would make a great minties add.

the driver looks at the passenger and the passenger just pulls a mintie out of his pocket.

"its times like these you need minties" haha.

seriously though, wouldnt you drive around the edge of the lake to see what it would be like before hooning out into the middle (away from any help).
a very inteligent man.

We dont have to see that to not do it, we are intelligent enough to not do it plus the fact i would not do that with my my ford. And if he was copying what Skaife had done then you would have to think that EVERYTHING would have been checked before Skaife did his run. Not, oh skaife did that i can do it too.

Definitely

He was even too stupid to know Skaife's record was not set on a salt lake, but on a road near Woomera, I don't think it was even the runway.

Crispy/Green X - I can understand hiding the plates (although be careful if offered a cheap Maloo ute soon!), but what state was it from? Looks like SA?

i feel sorry for the poor ***** who buys that ute next. all that salt...

where i grew up we had another definition for doing a skaifey.
mr skaife went to the high school i went to, and when he was a young chap him and his mates went to do burnouts on the school oval, and when skaife was doing them everyone realised the cops were on there way, and skattered and left skaifey to be caught, haha.
true story
