Funny I seen Caspers car on thursday....din't look like there was any mods getting done to it. I think Glenn only wanted the car there so he could have his own AU show n shine, there was enough Au's there :

This brings up a good point though. Yes, we do have an expected power level for the mods however, just looking through the forums, I am trying to find the highest rwkw from an NA I6 auto in an AU/E Series. Best I can find is 152rwkw based on a known reputable dyno.

Anyone find something higher? I'm just curious to see what the actual highest rwkw is for an NA I6 SOHC auto.

(dont bother posting numbers unless there is proof and it is done on a dyno that is known to be reputable ie APS, Hallam, G&D, Spiro's etc).

OK, as promised, here is the first mod done. Was a no brainer and most would have picked this as the first mod.

G&D Race AU airbox and intake.

(not actually my car, I havent been back to G&D to take actual pics yet)

Estimated result: 5rwkw
Actual Result: 10rwkw exactly (wow!)

This was tested in a “raw factory tune” state in these graphs to show the absolute minimum gain given. The first graph shows the car with the chip torque chip removed as we wanted to get total base readings of everything to start with. This is also with the “pod in a box”, XR8 intake and extra “headlight pipe” intake setup. It was immediately found that this whole setup was massively restricted due to no room in the airbox for airflow. Therefore, to give it every opportunity to produce its best, Glenn reversed the pod to sit above the airbox to get as much airflow as possible. I am stating this so everyone knows the true nature of the testing and can make their own decisions. I personally think that sitting it outside the airbox gave the “pod in a box” setup an inflated figure however G&D wanted to make sure the tests were considered as fair as possible.

The second dyno is the identical setup however the G&D airbox has been installed exactly to Glenn’s specifications. No other changes were made. I think the reading speaks for itself.

On an interesting note, the G&D airbox was tested using the original “tapered” AU piping and with the bigger diameter piping. On every single test done the tapered original AU pipe was at least 1-2rwkw BETTER. It seems one myth is already busted. The original AU tapered piping is proven to be more effective than a replacement larger diameter pipe.

So there you go… mod number 1 as promised. Overall I’m stunned with the results. I have seen less improvement with entire exhaust system changes. Not to mention it looks fantastic, is perfectly legal and probably wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow during a road worthy.

There a lot more to come too, this is the little one. :

I had to get Glenn to repeat it to me about 5 times.. I almost fell over. For an airbox its a massive gain. And verified by quite a few people now.

Thats a sweet air box set up..so can u explain how the setup gets such a good gain(such as where the air flow is coming from?)or whatever!!

Reckon ud ever paint the box and other engine bay parts to really shaz it up?

maybe I should just restate, this was with the factory tune and and the exhaust I've had for a while now. No magic, not tweaks. To my knowledge the car never even left the dyno during fitting. It was ran, swaped and ran again.

This is the mod we expected (and still expect) the least gain out of this time round. Get the feeling there is going to be some really cool dynosheets to come in the next week or so? :

snazzy lookin airbox casper.
To be honest i've never really noticed any real high dyno figures from auto I6's.
I'd be interested to see what EL Ghia's car pulled on a more respected dyno but theres prolly no reason your car won't out do them if the results so far are anything to go by.
deffinately a suprising results from a simple airbox!

I got 127.6 at the wheels from my stockie everything. Are you sure those numbers are right as they appear to be very low for all the money your forking out. Poor gains :hihi:

Yeah I know I know. Dyno results mean squat when you have no other cars to compare it against : I would esitimate that my car on that dyno would pull around 110 in stock form. Except for the headers and Tickford Snorkel. I think I'll order my 3" Intake pipe soon.

The air is taken from behind the headlights. The design and construction are G&D issues that I'll let them answer if they choose to.. but I'd say that its unlikely they will say exactly what they do.. would you?

My car is black.. the box is black.. paint adds weight (a gram at a time) so no, I'm not in this to look pretty.

Very impressive results from an airbox change. Although I do find it quite amazing to be honest that the 'modified' airbox was about an 8-10rwkw restriction below 3500rpm.

Where does the intake box get its air from? Is there a hole in the inner guard?
