I'm in the market for a used car in the low 20s - my aim is to find a sellers looking for $30k and offer them $23k cash today, take it or leave it.
Forgot to update everyone on what I bought. I found an immaculate lexus is250, guy wanted high 20s for it, got it for $24k. It's like a new car, not a single scratch, full service history etc etc.

Prices continue to soften. Territories are returning to prices on par with last Autumn.

The higher demand categories are still high, esp where availability of new replacement options is scarce.

Dealers are the ones doing their best to inflate the market with ridiculous prices. The privates all see it and catch on.

Despite higher prices, with the exception of the odd bunny, no one would be getting what they're asking.

Supply v demand. It's a living beast and no one controls it.

Yeah, I would like to see what they are actually selling for privately to compared to the asking price. People are asking stupid money for old trucks at the moment.

Dealers have been doing that since time began, they dont need to get what there asking it just means they have room to give Jo public closer to the inflated price they think there trades worth and still come out ok.

Oldest trick in the book, list high 'negotiate' down.

RRP + 20%, offer 10% 'discount'

Simply not the case.

To give you an example, Dutton's are known to buy up groups of rare cars, then drip feed them out at inflated prices.

HSV has gone nuts, FPV / Ford hasn't.

Begs the question, why go to all that expense and then sell it? Surely you'd realise you weren't going to use it much before you tipped the best part of $200k into it!

Yep Fordomatic, you're looking in the sweet spot. A lot of car for not much coin - and damn reliable too, if you forgive the suspension occasionally.

Im finding it has softened a little bit...just wait until all these owners start finding out how much HSV/FPV parts will cost to source...not because they are particularly good but because its getting harder to find good stuff.

Hopefully repro companies get on board and start getting into the 90's, 00's.

Spending that much money why wouldn’t you start with a Silverado or something?

Too big for Australian tracks. Also would have no spare parts support if touring around Australia.

I'm tempted to sell my Caprice given what's going on with values on local stuff with 8 cylinders and maybe get into JDM.

Post gearbox replacement of course it's worth scrap value at the moment with only two gears working
