Unfortunately the comparisons dont showCommy/Caprice vs Falcon/Tez, and so the usual comparisons will prevail.

But agree, the R&D and support that Ford does here in Aus for Ford global brings in lots for Ford and Australia, but does nothing for the public perception of Ford who doesnt realise or even care about that side of things. And yes, the spin in saying "Australias own Cruze" or words to that effect does suck the public in to buy those cars.

A friend of mine that works in development for a supplier mentioned to me recently that the proving ground boys had been really surprised by the potency of the four-cylinder Falcon. He mentioned something about tuning it to make it a little more mellow. He doesn't speak crap and doesn't exaggerate anything, but it is third hand information so not something I would wager on, but it sounded good.

OMG! That’s is 33K for a car that’s almost new and was selling for well over 50K brand new just 6 months ago. That’s exactly the perfect example of depreciation that’s just way too big to let go no matter how good the car is.

Remember though that is the value of the car when you go and sell it. In the meantime, I know for myself with my FGXR50, they are worth much more than the market value. I'm not intending to sell mine for some years.

And also, if you bought a new Beemer or similar, look at how much you lose in the first years with those cars!

Not surprised, especially given what some of the Turbocharged Euro and Japanese I4's make.

And this engine should be a generation newer then most of those.

Some other tidbits:

* Improved sound insulation - have they just used a thicker material or put it in more places?

* Lower grille on G6ET looks like a drain according to many non-car friends and this comment was made with the first FG, but it's more obvious on this update. I think it's grown too large.

* Both XR6 NA and XR6T now share the same 18" wheels; just like the BA XR6 NA/XR6T and XR8 did with their 17" wheels. Wonder how many will option up the new style 19" wheels? Considering there were plenty of XR6Ts with the standard audio system (no colour screen).

If I bought one I don't think i'd *want* 19" wheels. Even easier to damage a tyre/rim then with 18's.

Especially on Newcastle roads! I wonder if Ford have put some effort in the series 2 in relation to the poor build quality and interior plastics? I would imagine not as these issues still plague the new Territory and has been a shortcut Ford have taken since the AU. Even with that big 8 inch screen the interior still looks dated and just not right IMO. I assume the motor mags will agree.

I'd assume that would be for Ford employees/families and not for general public. I think it works out as Ford employee pricing, less any payments made by current driver/staffer (eg. if a lease car) leaving balance. So it never started off as a car sold at retail pricing.

Correct, and sometimes you have to pay fringe benefits too.

i like the XT and the XR6 i think they look sweet and better than the FG, I am not as keen on the G6E . The XT certainly is not a povo pack anymore great features for a base model falcon.

Just need the G8E and XR8 with the N/A 5.0

The AU had much better quality plastics. It wasn't the rough on your skin type crap that they have used on the BA-onwards. The EF-EL had much better quality interior plastics too.

I'm no fan of the SFH windows either, compared to the quality Pilkington we had in the E-series, but what can you do!?

I've never been a fan of the bulge on the FG, but on the FGII front it looks very very nice!! Just a shame the FPV changes are still 12 months away..

When i first saw the pics i thought it was shockingly ugly but in a matter of 1 day its starting to massively grow on me in the xr versions.

Pictures arent taken at the same viewing angle as the MKI so i'll reserve my judgement , i'm not sold on the wheels at all , all the mkii wheels look worse ( cheaper than the mki wheels) except for the fact that they are all bigger wheels , something i dont like, why have higher tyre running expenses when the 17's and 18s on mki's were more than sufficient . also not a fan of the touchscreen , it looks too big , and i dont like the idea of any touch screen in a car .
the mkii looks bland in comparison to the MKI . BUT LIKE I SAID IT MIGHT BE JUST THE PICTURE QUALITY
