A disappointing result in the end. France outplayed Italy and lost the Cup to a penalty shootout. I think they should scrap shootouts for finals matches and make them keep playing until someone scores.

Highlight of the match for me was Zidanes crackin headbutt to the chest of Materazzi!

I don't believe (as some are saying) that he cost his team victory, as I don't think France would have scored in the remaining 10 mins anyway - so it was definitely worth it!

We'll miss you Zizou!

Just to add to rub salt into Australian Teams wounds.

Because Italy won, 18 members of their squad have been cleared from investigation for match fixing.

Gotta love it :

Loved the headbutt! Classic. He must have said something pretty bad to provoke Zidane into headbutting him. Wonder what it was.
Good game though.

Well at least that kojak french bloke gave the italiano pansy a reason to take a dive, might as well make it worthwhile. Why do they have such a culture of taking dives in that game? That lucas oneil shouldv'e put one on that italian fellas chin for that cheeky grin he had when he was on the ground.

Part of the game. Until they put in rules to try to get rid of diving people will keep doing it. Its quite effective!!

Yeah....."questionable penalty", now you know what that feels like eh?

Still went for Italy though as they were playing France, the team I despise most.

I thought soccer was a good game ... until i started watching it more due to the World Cup ... the beautiful game as it is called ... more like the corrupt game.

referees have no consistency ... like turning a blind eye ... are corrupt.
Have they heard of a video referee ... doesn't look like it .... because they know they can't cheat if there was one.

It's not football ... it's "Nancyball" ... cos the majority of the players doo take a dive and act up. I think it's a pre-requisite for all "Nancyball" players to have a degree in Drama and Acting.

If they want to fall over and clutch their head in pain (when they tripped over their own feet) ... go up against a Rugby League/Union Forward ... and get hit up properly .... give them something to cry about.

All I can say is thank god there's no more "Nancyball" on TV anymore.

It may not be perfect, but FOOTBALL is still the most watched, and most played sport in the world. AFL and Thugby doesn't even compare as no-one outside Australia and the Commonwealth even gives a stuff or even knows what they are. Cheating occurs in every sport in one form or another. I don't like it anymore than you.

I know cheating occurs ocasionally on other sports ... not nowhere near as much as they blatantly do in soccer. It's laughable. And I can't believe oh weak the players are.

I rarely watch football of any sort ... but it has been on at work all of the time ... and that's all that has been on ... it has been getting really boring. But all I can say is i'd rather watch any for of Rugby over soccer ... at least Rugby seems a more fairer game than soccer.

Congratulations to Italy on winning the most prestigous award in soccer the World Cup.
Just goes to show match fixing can get you anywhere...
Bring the Golden Goal into the game FIFA its not like there where anymore more games to play in the tournament its the final.

Very good succesful tournament. Bring on the South African World Cup 2010.

How can you say this?

You admit that you hate the game & rarely watch it; so how can you make such a comment?

One point that has been raised (through abuse hehehe) Is the quality of soccer at the world cup. It is pretty poor.

A League or even local club soccer is 10x better to watch. There are no soft players in the local club leagues, and the games are FAR more entertaining to watch.

It was a fantastic result :

Italy out played France in the first half, even had more possession of the ball.

If you reckon France out played Italy; of course Zidane cost France the game. He is their Captain and, at the time, their No.1 striker and penalty shooter.

It was the best World Cup I have ever seen.

League does not even come close, think about it, each team has the best players from all their country.

How fitting.. the guy who took the dive and got the penalty, then a win for Italy in the Australia vs Italy game, .. is the one that scores from a penalty and wins them the Championship. _

Well done Zidane! You did what the Aussie players (and most other teams) wanted to do to the Italian players. At least you gave him a reason to dive.

Well done Italy. In this tornement, you have been undoubtley the best at it. And the best should always win. World Diving Champions 2006. : .. :hihi:

Come on ! I have played first grade all my life and lucky have been in some cracker jack winning teams but I don't think we could beat any of the Cup teams infact its laughable. In the toughness I'm sure we can give it out though :

The pool stages had some sensational games, what have you been watching ?
How's one qrtr final,France v Brazil, was that any good ? then Germany v Portugal was that any good ?
Then Italy v Germany was that any good ?
Nearly all Argies games were strong...
Just to name a few........

Its good to see that cheats do prosper. Its a shame that Zinidane didn't head but pizza boy on the nose. If you gonna go down, spill a little claret.

Well, it looks like this thread has gone to the DOGS

Lots of good comments getting lost with the moron comments, that show their bad sportsmanship and fear of the unknown.

I hope you all had a good cry into your pillows this morning :the_finge :

As Ive said before and will say again..Australia could not have beaten Italy. Its easy to say Australia were robbed but even with 10 men Italy were about to kick a goal when the penalty was given and Australia with the extra man never looked like scoring and couldnt have. Much more powerfull teams than Australia, Czech,Germany,France etc couldnt score a goal against Italy other than the penalty and own goal. Work the odds out.

Forza Italia.

There is no excuse for what that knob Zidane did in that match. I was backing both Italy and Australia in this tournament, so at least one of them walked away with the trophy. Italy are by far the best defenders in the world, and boy do they love getting corner kicks in.
