Not everyone uses legal drugs, there is actually a huge and growing amount of people who don't. Personally I have never smoked as I see it as being weak, and I have no inclination to shorten my life, stink like an ashtray and pay through the nose for that privilege. I used to drink regularly, but have not done so for years, a case of beer will last me 12 months these days, I bought one last year and still have a few left in the fridge. I will have the occasional social drink when out with family or friends, or at family functions, which are rare and far between these days. Quote:
Junkies will always find an excuse to justify their behaviour, as will most other criminals. A person needs to be able to justify what they do in their own mind, so they can deal with stealing persons property, injecting illegal drugs, selling drugs to kids etc etc How about if people did something positive to take their mind off bad things, I take my dogs out to the river or beach, go for a bike ride, have a gym session, work on my cars in the shed, rather than lock myself in a darkened room smoking pot or ICE which only makes things worse not better.

I did see you said you like a drink? But you don't like other people using other vices because they might be illegal. Give me a pothead over an alcoholic any day. And did you know that methamphetamine comes in legal form? The medicine Desoxyn which is used to treat a number of illness, is mostly methamphetamine? So don't give me the stupid legal/illegal bullcrap because all products legal or non legal are mind altering. |

I really don't want to start cutting holes in this thread. So please stay on topic and not go wandering off on personal slanging matches.

You missed the point.
You're wandering all over the place, managing to generalise everything from pot smoking to Paedophiles. Stay on topic or stay away.

Not might be, they are illegal. You can't seriously be comparing a criminal taking illegal drugs to a law abiding citizen having an occasional beer.

Having read many of the posts in this thread I feel so sad for those who have experienced the impact of this drug in their lives.
Though I see much about it on the news and I hear how it’s taking a hold of the disenfranchised young in my small country home town, my family and I have been very fortunately and by the sound of it lucky not to have it touch us. I’m not smart enough to come up with solutions but I do hope there are people out there that can and governments are prepared to make decisions based on real needs and not just for political point scoring. I see a huge test for Society coming. |

Addiction and all that it entails is just a cop out, an excuse. I have zero compassion for the purpotraiters, only for the lives they wreck. Miss use of drugs is a scourge on our society. And for the record. I have been there done that, and learnt my lessons. No compassion for excuses.

I can add two cents from a family point of view...
I have a child who hasnt seen/heard of/ had anything to do with their dad in ten years because of this stuff. I'm sure if it wasnt around that my child would have a very very different life to the one they have now. It seems the need for it just controls everything and theres not much to convince them otherwise..which I suppose is the basis for most addictions. |

We like things to be easy. We like an identifiable "goodie" and "badie" People like to be assured they have made the "right" decision, and not the "wrong" one. I find the things are most black and white when people don't understand the intricate details, haven't taken the time to think about it properly, or are deeply in denial and refuse point blank to consider another veiwpoint. |

Don't agree, then scroll up and see people making strong remarks about "perpetrators"
This view no doubt is in contrast to how they feel about "victims" Neat line down the middle Black and white No room for a victim to also be a perpetrator Now they will lash out at me, say that's a cop out, that I'm a hippy and making excuses for people, because it's critical that they can have a hard nosed simple opinion that doesn't need refinement, evidence or really too much thought Black and white, when in reality it is grey |

In the case of drugs, the victim is the purpotraiter. Addiction. Still have no compassion. Dig your way out of addiction. Or die trying. That is my view. Users say... They need the drugs to feel normal. Blah blah. Like a heroin addict. I am feeling sick, better get another fix. Dig out or die.

I don't disagree with your viewpoint Shonky, but I can also see the other side which is black and white. Sometimes looking at black and white from a purely personal reflective position strips away all the periphery and allows one to look at the core...

I tend not to judge someone who do drugs, as i have recovered myself. I do however judge the ones that steal and turn to crime to support their addiction because you are hurting other people but for myself, i never hurt anyone and worked very hard. I was able to stop so i guess i am one of the lucky ones.
There are some pretty self righteous attitudes here. Yes you may look down on someone who chooses to use drugs, but look in the mirror and you will not see perfection either. i agree the junkie who steal and robs others are scum, but most users aren't your stereotypical junkie |

It would change, but people act all high and mighty when they are lucky enough to be untouched by something. They are similar to the anti-gay people who quickly change their stance when a son/daughter comes home and tells them they are gay. Not so black and white anymore
