It's all good I guess, as I just throw all my change in a bucket and cash it in at the end of the year. Usually nets me a holiday or part thereof. I would have just preferred the crisp $10 to reside in my wallet for potential use this time around.

Checkout chick skoolkid looked at it, handed me back the coins then proceeded to count out what the screen said from the $50 note

I can understand the lack of comprehension of correct money handling, most if not all young people simply do not use cash. But in reality, the sales system should be telling them everything they need to know. As in type is the money received from the customer, then give the change the amount presented to the operator on the screen. Not hard.

Pretty much every person i speak to who works in a service role agrees with me when i say you always remember the names of difficult clients easier then good clients.
When i say clients i mean contracts or repeat business, not just 1 off customers.
Although, that being said, at my last job there were a couple clients my colleagues found difficult, however i had no issues with. This sort of boils down to something i was taught pretty well from the start of my apprenticeship. So regardless of difficult client or not, try to pick up on the clients hobby/interest. So regardless if its your thing, next time you see the client, if say they are an avid cyclist you ask if they've been on any decent rides lately. So without being a time waster, you know, 30 seconds of chit chat not 10 minutes of time wasting, to the client you transform from that guy who just comes to do the thing, to a person. As in client remembers your name and you form kind of friendships. More like saying hello in passing stuff, so more then an acknowledgement nod in passing, but not friend friend.

I think one of the funnier things i was told. So another tradie once asked me whats up with the old bloke i worked with. I asked what?
He says in passing he'd say howyagoing, and the old bloke would bail him up and actually say how he is going.....

Considering you do the Christmas dress-up, I’d like to see your Santa skills when the kids are being little Henries.

But kids who still do or want to still believe are delightful,
even the parents are wonderful, smiling & wishing me a Merry Christmas etc
(probably because their kids will now behave for a few days)

It's just a shame that people can't or won't use that "Christmas cheer" all year round.

Human nature I suppose.

Transverse V6 alternators, always fun.

Remove radiator, hoses, battery tray, airbox, aux belt, PAS pulley, exhaust heatshields, lower AC compressor, unbolt alternator and play the “Chinese puzzle” game to get it past everything.

Barra is much nicer to do!

Apparently it’s nigh on impossible to get slip rings for these Valeo alternators, in Sydney. Trade price on an OEM unit isn’t bad, but I’d rather not waste a 90K alternator for the sake of wear parts designed to be replaced.

Dealing with change and release management. I put in a prod change exact same as last year which they approved then but now it's not good enough.

I put this in last week (2 weeks ahead) and it sat around for a week. They want to raise new changes for work I already have done and tested in the lower levels.

It's days/weeks of paper work for a 1 sec SQL script run same as what was done last year and the years before that.

They **** me to tears. That's before you even get to the point they have no clue what they are even looking at in the first place

At a hills property today clipping a Cyprus hedge, park the van on a (flat) lawn area to get it out of the way and get the tools closer to the job. Oh crap, grass is very wet and she sinks. Took an hr of rocking back and forwards, and left the lawn a hell of a mess. I’ll have to stump up for a trailer of loam to flatten it all out :/

Bugger! Have been there before too, the only time I wished I had ordered a 4x4 Ranger, ended up being towed out by the clients neighbour.

Not likely to happen with my dryer: it would be lucky to be used once a year! Reckon it would have to be at least 25 years old

Main issue is... you can leave washing on the washing line in the sun and it will dry. Cant say the same with leaving perishables in the sun, well you sorta can, they will perish faster. So im going to side with a bum fridge is worse.

Oh, absolutely. Soz, I probably wrote that ambiguously, but I was just responding to DFB's post about his dryer and not really comparing a fridge crumping itself to a dryer doing the same thing.

Depends on your work hours/days, if you’re not finding time to do the washing and hang it in daylight hours, coming home filthy, showering and putting all the dirty clothes through machines is kind of the only option - apart from maybe having socks/undergarments on a clothes horse. Or even if you do put it on the line at six in the morning, and bring it in after returning in the dark - it will need sharpening up in the drier.

Hard luck award this week goes to a young woman I know; she’s carefully saved up to buy a used 4x4 camper, and just took it to a well-recommended specialist interstate for a pre-road trip service and tweaks. On the way home from this specialist last weekend, it blew the motor.

I feel gutted for her, she had no help from anyone with funds (100% not a social media schmoozer), diligently worked through and planned pretty much everything - now this.

For 12 months my hairdresser has started off our conversation with “Oh! You’re here for a buzz cut?”
Today I learnt that means they are suggesting I don’t have enough hair left to cut with scissors :/

someones dad hates me.
couple weeks ago I head into the barbers, real old style mens hairdresser.
I being the oldest client @ 73. client before me is a 4 year old kid with his dad.
Barber, "OK what are we doing?"
Dad "no2 please for the lad."
kid. "and a lightening strike."

dad looks around the waiting room, sighs and " If anyone here gets one you can too."
poor kid also looks around the room face full of dejection.
2nd barber, "Tony, your next, what are we doing today?"

without batting an eyelid I climb into chair, clear my throat, make eye contact with the kid via the mirror...."No2 with lightening strike behind the right ear please Jim."

Kids face goes blank for a milli second breaks into massive grin, dad just about falls through the floor "what the hell?' I just grin at him, then kid and eye high 5 each other.
Was a memorable day

Fridge still on the blink. Tech can't get out until tomoz. So living out of a portable fridge, drinks fridge and chest freezer for the time being.

Mate suggested not trying to get it fixed and just replace it as the replacement will likely be more efficient and trying to get it repaired may cost more.

Replacement would be about $2.5k, and given the fridge is not getting any power, I'm hoping that it is something relatively simple like a power supply on the fritz and everything will work just fine once it's repaired/replaced.

I hate the thought of throwing away an otherwise perfectly fine appliance simply because one part has crumped it. I know it's the way of our modern world, but I still hate it.

Bureaucracy.

I’m trying to return a toll tag issued by the (soon-to-be) ex-wife of Crash Bunny; it was in the damaged car I bought off him. She has left the state, and judging by the odd messages I’ve received out of hours, possibly the planet.

You’d think I could walk into a service NSW office and hand it over the counter? Nooo… You can’t even turn one in as lost property! They flat-out refused to accept this tag, citing that because I acknowledged myself as a “non authorised person” they couldn’t take it from me. (I wonder if you can hand in a lost licence?)

Sure I could just throw the tag in the rubbish, but then if she closes the account a $40 deduction would be made for the missing item. That equally doesn’t sit well with my morals.

I thought those tags were owned by private toll operators or have things changes there ? Don't know never had one.

Yeah, that was my first thought, too, RW.

The other option you have, CB, is just take it into a local police station claiming that you found it lying on a road somewhere. Doubt they'd even bother asking you where or any any personal details, and then it's up to them to return it to the rightful owner.
