seriously 4 beers or drinks, how can they call that binge drinking,
and with all the "alcopop" taxes it's not going to stop people from drinking also if they raise the legal drinking age it just going to increase the amount of underage drinking that they are trying to stop,
end rant

I really wish the government would deliver its promises for "working families " (Rudd's prostituted marketing pitch for election) rather than pis$fart around with pis$y issues like alcopops, apologies that are merely gestural and deciding what is binge drinking.

I'll continue to drink and much as I want in the privacy of my home and drive whatever car I want.

These media beat-ups are a waste of time.

Have you guys got that "Woolies Liquor" deal going on the East Coast? Buy 2 bottles of scotch, bourbon, blah, blah, blah, for $50 & we will give you 8 cents a litre of your fuel bill!!! Hypocrisy at its best!!! Then at the end of the ad , it states "don't drink & drive!!!" :

if 4 stubbies call me a binge drinker thats easy solved.... my name is dave and im NOT a binge drinker, i only have 3 'largies' per night

i sometimes think Rudd exchanged the cranial fluid in his skull and poured in a caraff of wine as a replacement.... trying to cut back aussies from drinking...pfft, its almost unaustralian not to have a bit of boozehound in us!

what they gunna do next, tax us for havin BBQ's.... or have i spoken too soon

Yeh, that's pretty sad. Basing your national identity on drinking. : It's what Rudd is trying to fix, but I do agree that so far he's going about it the wrong way.

Well, I had a beer with lunch today. A nice big steak, cause I've got a 21st tonight and I want to have a full stomach. Oh, but meat is bad for the environment as well right?

So I'd better only have 2 beers at this 21st. Oh no, If I have 3 I'll be a binge drinker! I'll have to get back into my car (which under law I'd be allowed to do!) and drive home.

Oh, but my modified 6 cylinder large sedan is the devil as well, right? Not only am I a massive hoon (despite never being pulled over in my life, and attending multiple driver training courses), but I'm polluting the environment as well (even though it's on gas and is advertised as greener for the environment).

Geez this country is getting soft.

$30.00 of food for the family .... 4 cents off per/l
6 bottles of wine ................... 20 cents off per/l

Soooo if I drink rather than eat, I can then afford petrol! : Any way, gotta go out side for a ciggy now while I am still allowed.

I just enjoyed a 7% beer then, and I had 3 scotch and drys last night.

I think it's just a pointless diversion from the ineptitude (thus far) of the Rudd Government to deliver anything meaningful.

As I said, if they said 1 drink was binge drinking, I'd still tell them to get stuffed.

I don't wake up with hangovers or lethargy because I also enjoy a balanced diet and excerise regularly. I am entitled to enjoy my life (which the government should learn, is finite) in the way I wish.

I dont think you should be blaming the current government on this subject (hang with me here, i'm not defending my choice of allegiance (sp?)). I think they've been pushed into trying to look like they're doing something about a subject which has just lately gathered a fair amount of media coverage and bashing by all the health bureaucrats. i recall taking a work based health assesment last year and being told that my 'habit' of 6+ beers in a 7 day WEEK was binge drinking!!

i think the tax will be as far as anyone will take this, everyone has just moved past the whole cigarrette shenanigans from the past 10 years, and now the focus is 'binge' drinking. is a packet of cigarrettes a day binge smoking?

Smoking = bad for society, cancer etc
owning a V8 = bad for society, carbon emissions etc
Using Ice = Bad for society, ruins ya life etc <---i do not recommend this one
Drinking = Bad for society, great for building courage, charm, charisma, causes cancer

Everyone knows this already! Changing something as insignificant as a number doesnt mean JACK. I'll still drive my V8 home from work on a Friday night and passively smoke my mates cigarrettes, drink my half carton of Beam, watch the footy on my dirty electricity sucking 52" LCD Tele, catch up during the newsbriefs as to what the street price of the latest Ice shipment was, and then tuck into my 500gm Rump steak that i cooked on my GAS stove. and at the end of the night i'll have a 30 minute hot shower. in the words of Dennis Leary "I'm an A-hole, and i'm proud of it!"

The governenment and media seem to spend all their time vilifying sections of society over stupid and trivial things.

I wonder if this is to keep us from thinking about all the things they keep stuffing up and pressuring them to do something about it?
I agree with you 100%, Absolutely stupid..the government has nothing better to do but about pointless things.
Its an Australian Icon to drink Alcohol,..also raising the prices of mixed drinks is an outrage, now its costing me $5-$7 more to get my 6pack of Jonnie walker n coke once a month, but wait If I finsih those cans in one drinking session Im classed as a binge drinker...Kevin Rudd can go get nicked! Spend your time doing something better like improving the Train Services (as the fines that the company get Several Million a year) seem to disappear (was on the news).

This hasn't done anything, it's merely defined the term " binge drinking ". Wow. Also, the only way to eliminate underage drinking is to change the legal drinking age from 18 to 7. I think the government needs to accept that fact and move on, they should be encouraging children to drink responsibly rather than (trying to) stop them altogether.
