I did have a laugh during the "what were they thinking segment", when they posted a pic of the UK presenters, as to how did they think a bunch of aussies could follow in their footsteps!
I've been enjoying the Aus show, though. |

they did exactly that, swapped for each test, and they both said the Ford was faster and better handling but lost the brake test by a smidgeon(bees dick)both said while watching the Stig that the Ford had much less body roll in the bends.

Anyone who says TGA is crap needs to take a step back and look at what we had previously. If you forget there was ever Top Gear UK, compare TGA to anything else we've had over the years it absolutely trumps it IMO. I think some people are too harsh. Yes Top Gear UK is brilliant and Jeremy is a classic, but over all, TGA is leaps and bounds ahead of any other Australian car show. Look at it in isolation, get out of your (TGUK) comfort zone, and give TGA the break it deserves. And one final resolution, getting TGA doesn't mean we lose TGUK, it means we get both TGA and TGUK all year round! And that IMO is very good.

I'm a Commodore owner (and Falcon owner), but I'd have serious doubts that I'd ever buy a 6-cyl Commodore - especially an Omega - over a 6cyl FG Falcon. The FG is like the traditional Aussie six .. only better. The 6cyl VE is like supersized V6 Camry .. only worse. I can't even stand the Alloytec in VZs let along the bigger and heavier VE .. yuck!
Now V8s on the otherhand are a completely different kettle of fish |

I must say, looks like im going to eat my words the show is getting better. Still dont like the old guy, his rant was over the top but spot on. The guy with the moe is yet to win me over aswell, dont know what it is. Perhaps he could remove the fluff from his upper lip and he wouldn't look so comical.

Agree with what has already been said, although the brake test was a bit of a concern, although not too suprising. Assuming that the test was done correctly, they were both doing the same speed and hit the brakes at the same time, that distance is the difference between bumping a pedestrian or doing far worse damage. Or stopping in time vs running up the back of someone fairly hard.
Anyway the falcon thumped the commodore on every other front, plus IMO its better looking too. The flared guardes on the commos look good on the SS and HSVs, but look really bad on the omega. The show has come a fair way from the first episode. At first the humour was forced, the presenters talked way too loud, the reviews were rubbish and it didnt have decent direction. The humour is still a bit forced in some areas (esp. in the studio), I still get a cringe in some points but its way better. The dialogue in the reviews between the 3 is far more natural and much funnier. Reviews are a lot better, being more critical and making decisions. Still not the defined feeling in TGUK but getting there. The presenters are getting more comfortable and starting to show their own personalities, rather than just being copies of Clarkson, Hammond and May. The segments feel more engrossing and informative. Not near the level of TGUK, that's a huge ask. But much, much better than shows like The Car Show or any other 1/2-1 hour advertisements we have in this country. My yard stick is my fiancee. She isn't a car nut, but loves TGUK for the humour, its one of her favourite shows. She HATED TGA after the first episode, but now she is laughing at it and enjoying it. Well done Warren, Charlie and Steve. You had a hell of a lot to live up to. Sure it wasn't TGUK, but you still manged to entertain us far more than any other Australian car show. Looking forward to season 2.

The braking was very ordinary. The difference is distance at 100km/h was less than 0.1 seconds and human reactions are not that good.
The only way to do it is to use accellerometers otherwise it is too subjective. The accelleration is less subjective as the FG was pulling away from the VE the whole way. Even if it got a head start once they were both going the ve would have stayed parallel or caught up is it were the same or quicker. Strangely there seems to be very little mention of it on LS1.... |

These are the quotes that stuck in my mind:
When they gave the nod to the Ford it appeared to be through clenched teeth, as if they were worried about the audience's reaction. They also described it as a "$500m facelifted Falcon". No mention of any engine comparisons in regards to relative refinement. And the speal at the end regarding buying the cars to save the rear wheel drive, they referred to the Taurus rather than the current Toyota competitor to point out FWD deficiencies. Guess they had to even out their plaudits with a good bagging to appease some? **** |

The acceleration test was biased, the Commodore clearly took off a little earlier, as flappist said there was more error due to reaction time than the difference in braking, plus did anyone else think it strange that the ABS was not kicking in on either car? That to me says it wasn't really maximum braking.
It was great to see the Stig lap 2 sec a lap quicker in the Falcon. All in all TGA has improved a lot since the first episode. Charlies rant at the end actually gave him some cred in my books.

^^^I think the commy took off better as they have always been highly geared in 1st. I dont know how the 5SA has changed that though.

They are finally getting it together... Last night's show was by far, the best episode yet.
They are starting to distinguish themselves from TGUK, which is definitely a good thing
