Considering it is not a HOME yet but is in fact a workplace, I would be interested in hearing what the outcome would be if the workers took it to the department of industrial relations (or state equivalent). I am tipping that unless it is mentioned in an EBA, it could not be enforced. The truth is the builder will just bow down as the contract will be worth too much.

I can see some plumbing, electrical, plastering etc troubles in their future.

Legalities and ivory towers aside - its a simple request.

They are the customer.

Its not too intrusive.

They are paying.

I wonder what a little recession would do the appetite of the trades to do what is asked, do a good job, turn up on time finish the job on time, and do things customers ask for if its not too hard.

No it’s not. It’s more like a declaration of war.

Do you know any building workers?

I thought I was going to read about "utterly disgusting behaviour." It's a condition that if they want the job, there are some guidelines while being on the property. If it's too much of a big deal, then leave and find work somewhere else. I don't see what the fuss is about. Take a lunch break off the property if not eating meat will kill you.

And what happens when the owners occupy said house and their children go to school.
Do they demand other children not eat their ham sandwiches.

I'd be happy to follow their rules if working over seas, when in Rome....

Personally I think id bloody disgusting. As noted before id deny them entry into the country. They are not in India now for Christ sake. Im sick and tired of immigrants coming into the country and trying to install their ideals and beliefs on us. If we went to India im sure they would kick up a stink if we forced their construction crew to eat meat pies and steak. If you don't like how we act, are or live then don't come here.
Have a nice day

I am tipping about 20 times that of the average australian that is enjoying a meat pie, that has very little actual meat in it anyway.

Crazy people!

There beliefs are not against killing or chopping things down, just eating them!

I work on a job site where I have to wear mono goggles, ear protection, hard hat, long pants and long sleeves. Also some bloke I have never met suffers from a peanut allergy, so no products containing nuts.

its both, she said that she doesn't want them to eat meat because it harms the environment and its not only because of her beliefs...

I fail to see how removing Bovine that cause green-house gasses a bad thing for the environment...

here we go....
Mrs Oswal has previously accused the meat industry of "raping the earth".

"Meat eating is creating bad karma and you are also creating a vicious cycle," she said.

"It's destroying us environmentally, economically and socially. I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I've always been a vegetarian so I have always felt strongly about it.

"First, because of religious reasons, but then later because I realised the greater good associated with it.

Playing devils advocate here but it sounds to me more a case of vegitarians going mad... not a religious or cultural objection....

I'm Indian, and I eat meat like it's endangered. The only thing better than watching a Tendulkar century in my house is to do so whilst chewing on some bacon.

It's not that these morons in question are of Indian decent, it's that they're vegetarian freaks.

My parents moved to this side of the world because they were here on holiday and fell in love with the country and its people. Since they moved some 30 years ago, they've tried their best to intergrate. Nowadays, watching the V8s whilst sinking some VBs is a normal Sunday at our house.

The immigrants that leave the homeland and try to impose their views/religion/beliefs on the locals frustrate us and embarrass the **** out of us.

I always ask these types of people why the left the homeland in the first place..

As been said and agree, if this was stipulated before work or contracts have been signed and everyone knows the conditions before commencement, the rules have been accepted and no one has a right to complain ..... but not during, especially when it really is a right for anyone to have lunch with a slice of cow in their sandwich at there work place if they so desire.

Extremely hypocritical when they are so against 'raping the earth' ...... hope they have also stipulated that everything that is used is biodegradable and recyclable and all environmental impacts studies are in order ensuring no frog will be harmed in the making of their simple 'green friendly' abode.

I'm with you, they could have sorted that out before the building began. I respect their right to ask for what they want, however the horse has already bolted.

I like the idea in the post above that the owners provide a site off the block for workers to eat. Sounds like they've got the cash for it! LOL!

I know what you mean!

If these builders are like some I know of, such a request like this will only make things worse for the new owners.

A few leg hams in roof, a six pack of pies in the floor.

Corner of the laundry used as a toilet... I could go on

I think the tittle of the thread is misleading.... There is nothing "disgusting" as such.

The couple by all accounts sound like they are excentric (luney : ).
Its a stupid request by all accounts, but some of the redneck replies here people.... how do you know people on this forum are not from migrant families?

Hinduism for one. Sikhism does not strictly say eating meat is forbiden but does not encourge it either.

I'm of indian (sikh) decent and my both pearnts are vegetarians. The difference here is that my pearnts beleive its wrong to force there beliefs on other people(other then my dads haterd of smoking). Me and my brother love eating meat and my pearnts never say dont eat it or its bad etc etc. I feel these vegetarian "radicalists" are being too over the top. They are basicaly saying that eating meat is wrong and is wrong, so the majority of us are wrong in that sense.

They need to relise that everyone is not the same and do not agree with there opinions/beliefs/views

just my 2cents worth

agree, a whole bunch of redneck rascist ignorant responses.

dont eat meat on site simple enough request i thought, maybe she would have caused less fuss by simply saying all meal breaks must be taken off site?

Actually I have changed my mind...

I reckon this is a GREAT idea.

From now on, all of my employees and contractors:

Can not drive holdens to work or talk about them except in a derogatory manor.
Must come to work topless and put on their uniform in the front showroom (this is for men and women as it illegal discriminate on gender)
Can not be pregnant (again men and women equally).
Can be any religion whatsoever that worships a blue oval.
Must eat vegemite and meat pies with too much tomato sauce every day.
Must have freckles and/or natural blonde or red hair (any race is ok due to discrimination laws)
Must get sunburned when outside.
Must own at least 10 guns and hunt regularly, especially cute fluffy things.

Come on, it is a global financial crisis, if you don't take the job then I will dob you to centrelink so you lose your dole you parasites......

I sign the cheques so you all do what I say........

If my boss made a simple request - it was important to them and no skin off my nose - whats the big issue?

I think this happens often.

If I get sick of it and I think I'm better then I will find better work elsewhere.
