Seeing as I plan on getting a Klipsch down firing sub Id like to fit architectural flush fit wall speakers for the streamlined look, but with paintable covers. Hoping to stick with same branded speakers for that. As for receiver and amp, was thinking Denon, Yamaha or Onkyo. Thoughts? If I push the HT budget to say 7-8k, could it be done for that?

Blue what type of speakers you looking for?
This is a system that I would call upper middle of the road. Meaning there is going to be better and but a whole lot worse than these. Kef blade speakers are such an awesome pair of speakers but if you are like me they are only going to be a bit of a pipe dream. Speakers cost around 40K and the amp needed to run them at spec is about 35K. Next best thing and look similar fraction of the price and sound awesome as Dali Fazon 5 http://www.dali-speakers.com/en-US/L...ZON-F5.aspxell. The sub is downward firing too. As far as AVR I would do is get a 5 or 7 channel power amp http://www.parasound.com/nc/5250v2.php This is an awesome solution and pretty much future proofing yourself for a bit. Lets face it AVR of the same series have the same video processing at entry level all the way to top lvl. what you are really paying is power. and a couple of extra features. That in truth most of dont use anyway. Most of amps dont do what they say about power anyway they may say 120 watts or 130 watts but when under load they tend to drop. The whole purpose of power amp is to give you power and wattage you are supposed to get. As long as you get a multi channel amp you are set for the life of the power amp. So why the initial investment on a power amp seems steep, Just means you can get a less expensive AVR rather than paying for a high dollar one. Why you ask? Well sound hardly ever changes with the new digital stuff 3d stuff etc etc all that is done by the processor of the amp. 600 to 4000 dollar amp of the same series has the technology just the power that is varying and few small things. In short you pay 600 bucks for an AVR and 2 years later you new technology and upgrade but only get the 600 again. Still have the great power. beats having to spend 3k everytime you upgrade. Going Projector? Panel? 3D? Last edited by Rexx; 20-10-2012 at 12:02 PM. |

Future proofing is a great idea.
I bought my system in 2003 and it is still going strong. I expect the amp to last for another few years. It has no HDMI in or outputs, which is a shame, but I didn't see them when I bought that. Bit of a drag, but I've worked around it. You should expect 10+ years about of your system, so invest in the best you can afford with the ability to add extra stuff without having to upgrade the AVR.

I ended up with an Optoma HD33 3d projector(from the Mitsubishi 2d) 100 inch screen, Yamaha RXA810 receiver(up from the Dennon 1513) , Mission MX4 speakers(up from the psb pack)and Toshiba BDX4300KY 3d bluray player and using my Bose SIII speakers as the surround.

In ceiling look at the KEF Uni Q. These are really awesome in the sense that there is no real sweet spot. My next house is going to have the QT series and the subies will be hidden away. When the system is on the speakers will drop into position and its off the hide. Not much more stream line than that. http://www.kef.com/html/au/showroom/...0qt/index.html http://www.kef.com/html/au/showroom/...3qt/index.html Now in your Colums...... http://www.kef.com/html/au/showroom/In_wall/index.html Anything with a Q in it is going to give you a full room sound |

Generally straight sound amps are better. Less stuff to go wrong. I work with a warranty shop, we get a lot off AVRs come in with HDMI problems. the other is power problems. Perth is notoris for giving us work because of bad power. |

hearing next door neighbours home theatre system has put me off getting something decent.
They play all there music, movies, video games, TV through the subwoofer......... constantly to the point where i feel like im living in the middle of Syria. Just remember boys & girls, it may sound really cool inside your house, but theres about a dozen neighbours who want to push your head through the port on your sub box. |

I've tried to sound proof the home theater to stop the noise as much as I can from traveling to neighbors etc.

No point filling your lounge room with huge speakers if every time you use it you bounce the neighbours off their walls. Low hz is impossible to contain if you have windows.

Yamaha RX-A3000 Receiver (used to drive the mains and centre speaker only)
Yamaha BD-A1010 Blu Ray Yamaha CDC 685 CD Player Rotel 5 channel 125 wpc (all channels driven) power amp to drive the rear surrounds and front effects Pioneer DVD-R Foxtel HD PVR Denon Tape Deck JVC VHS VCR Apple TV (160gb) with about 18000 songs and 350 music videos. QNAP Server 12TB Raid 5 (9TB Capacity) Klipsch RF 35 Mains Klipsch RC 35 centre 3x Klipsch RS Rear Klipsch SB 1 Front effects Yamaha YST 1500 1000w sub. 70 inch Sony LED RP TV I want to get a "Popcorn hour" media player to interface with the QNAP. I like Klipsch RF speakers because they are very efficient and detailed. I get about 110db when playing Queen Live at Wembley. Clear with no distortion (No, I don't play things that loud all the time) They speakers I have are now superseded by the RF-82. (8 inch drivers) I live on a 5 acre block so do not annoy anyone. Paradigm speakers are also fantastic. One thing to remember is that modern receiver power ratings are a con. They are not quoted with all channels driven like the old school stuff. You should look at the units power supply rating and divide it by the number of channels to give you a rough estimate of real grunt. If you can, get a separate power amp to take some of the load. I would have preferred to drive my front stage off the power amp but the receiver does not allow me to assign the amps for the front effect if I do that. The later RX-A 3020 and 3020 does. I have just retired a fantastic Yamaha RX-V3300 receiver only because it didn't switch HDMI and did not connect into a network. Sounds awesome though. Oh, and the sub is at almost minimum volume. I like to feel it rather than hear it if you know what I mean. Steve |

Also guys I've been hunting for a good remote for some time now. I haven't really found anything I like yet so any recommendations would be appreciated.
I've been looking at some of these applications for iPad and iPhone. Anyone used them before?

Your RF-5s must be fantastic. My speakers are RF-35s, the model bellow but the newer models are dot direct replacements. They have 8 inch drivers and very sensitive, 98db at 1w 1m. LOUD, Now, what about a pair of RF-7s? Steve Last edited by JG66ME; 22-10-2012 at 02:56 PM. |
