You live in fantasy land, even the old XR5 is faster. Thing is they are both in a different category to the GTi.

Hyundai is dipping thier toe in the water, so to speak.

It's not aimed at car people, it's aimed at regular car buyer who wants something a little sportier than the average hatch but without the associated price tag of an ST/MPS/GTi/RS.

We test drove a Veloster turbo just for **** n giggles when shopping for a new car. Sure it didn't have the punch or handling of the others, but it's also significantly cheaper.

It's all relative. Everyone buys a car that suits their needs and/or wants. Hopefully, no one is sneering at anyone else's ride.

Actually, Australian Motor Magazine timed the Polo doing 6.7. Not sure about "real world" times for the Foci pair, though.

Well it's still slower then.
Anyway enough about the ST, it's faster than the Polo and has nothing to do with the Hyundai.

hot hatches, mild hatches, warm hatches, hatches with fries on the side is the way of the future in this country

when petrol touches $2 per litre

Each to their own when it comes to rides.. Do i need to wear the same colour jocks as everybody else? Not eveyone likes wearing jocks

Ive never owned one, my mate has bought one for his missus and i went for a drive in it, i think it was an i40. Not bad, not good, just ok, it did the job

I'd line our Polo GTi up against a Focus ST on a drag strip and beat it every time. DSG > manual.

park your G6et next to a Genesis r spec and your ford may as well be a cherry

not to mention the fact that Hyundai was assembling cars for ford for 20 years

i`ve said it before , i`ll say it again .......having lots of gadgets and luxo items does`nt necessarily make a better car, if you read some reviews it gets a less than glowing report for the cars it`s trying to go up against, give me G6ET over hyundies r spec any day of the week.

But the Ford offers better engines, better steering and better handling.

Who cares about luxo gadgets anyway?

fine and ill be proud to still own a fast ford with a long lineage of good performance cars....just like porsche and BMW(despite being in diff price ranges)......but how do you explain a Hyundai or a kia..........PLEASE don't make me laugh. Don't get me wrong...they serve a good purpose....but its not performance AT ALL

so your telling me if I park my G6ET beside a genesis.....my ford becomes slow..its looses the safest car on the market badge and the best car 3 out of 5 years badge hey.
Sorry but you just cant bag ford G6s...the owners know how good they are...and so do anyone whos ever driven one. Cheap...efficient for the speed....very fast....very comfy.....look great. You don't earn certain acclaims like these fords have for nothing. World class gearboxes...engines and have been regarded as the best sports sedans in the world under 100k.
Now tell me what these sporty kias and hyundais have earned in the last 5 years. Nothing but sales to people who want only cheap transport.
Maybe once this Hyundai i30 SR gets some substance and longevity it will get more respect as a sports car. Not now tho

I do, in a big way.

Some of the stuff that appeared on cars in the 90s shouldn't have disappeared, like EL Fairmont Ghia speed sensitive power steering, Honda's 4 wheel steering on the Prelude, Mazda's electronic vents that moved left/right when you turned on the A/C on their 80s/90s 626s etc.

wow I like the idea of the moving vents.....didn't care much for the ss steering and id imagine 4 wheel steering not only is inefficient but don't see the advantage.

I have owned many ford variants , but my Toyota is worlds ahead in technology & gadgets for its time . Not to mention such an over engineered motor . I won't buy another " Australian " built car . After test driving what is on the market from Hyundai & Kia , I wouldn't hesitate .

Its the "Ford Forum" but the section we are currently talking in covers "general automotive talk".

If this forum enforced Ford only talk, it would probably have half the activity it does now and this section would be close to dead.

It's fine for people to talk about other manufacturers and vehicles, but when they can't do that without bringing how much they can't stand Ford's and would never buy one into the mix then that's when there is an issue.

I like talking about other brands and cars too. But I don't need to slag Ford off while i'm doing it, see the difference?

Well there's performance and performance, I'm sure your G6 goes ok in a straight line, average around a corner and quite bad in another kind of performance called fuel efficiency . As with every single car that comes out of Geelongs plant It'll also be rusted as the rocks of the outback in 10 years. Meanwhile the Kia will still have body warranty . Although the plastics will probably all be broken lol.

Nothing is perfect and it's worthwhile considering all kinds of cars, not just whatever company you happened to like as a kid. There's no place in the world for brand loyalty these days.

If Ford can make me a good car I'll by it, if Kia make a better one, then I'll by that instead.

The thread is about a Hyundai. This area is for general automotive chat. If someone wants to buy a Korean car that's their choice. I wouldn't purchase australian car to support the economy if didn't like the car simple as that.

Wow , I thought the pub section was an open type sub section ...

Guess not ! My opinion as to why I would buy a Hyundai over ford comes from owning 6 different makes and models . Pretty sure that's an ok opinion . I neve said " NO ONE BUY FORDS OR HELL WILL COMETH " ? ;)

And I haven't upgraded yet as finances are the factor , as they always are . Plus I never said fords are crap or rubbish .... Just I personally wouldn't buy a new one .

yes the soarer/lexus came well appointed for their time(but you did pay a lot for them), and they did need to upgrade the old 7m motor to the j series as it had some serious flaws.

The pub is for general automotive chat about ALL brands, marques, types and models of motor vehicles.

It is NOT a place for schoolyard bickering.

I have deleted and edited several posts, some of which were quite valid but as they were part of the argumentative stream I have had to remove them.

If anyone has a factual point about anything then back it up with evidence.
If you have an opinion then qualify it and be prepared for a rebuttal.

The time of unfounded, unsupported or dogmatic negativity is over.

I didn't bag ford out either I was actually a signature away from buying an fg xr6t with luxury pack a fortnight ago but got a Focus ST instead

I also looked at a g6et and a Kia optima platinum and I found the Kia to be an overall nicer car than the g6, yeah the g6 had plenty of power but was way behind the optima as far as finish was concerned but the Kia is about as reliable as a VW

The ONLY thing the Ford had that drew me away from the Kia was the fact it was a rwd sedan with plenty of grunt, it certainly didn't drive better than the Kia at the speed limit

A mate also had a look at a veloster turbo, these things are a truly fantastic little car with a high quality finish and a very sporty feel, they also handle quite well,

Hyundai are only going to get better and better and sad to say will be here long after the death of the Aussie falcon
