That poster that you put up Nikked quotes the Ferrari as dry weight while it has the McLaren as kerb weight.
While this wouldn't account for the whole 145kg difference, adding all the oils, fluids, some petrol etc it would close the gap. It also skews the power to weight graphs, favouring the Ferrari more than it should. The Zonda was replaced by a new model a while back.

Beautiful car indeed the Ferrari is but like the man in charge of Lamborghini said, " If you wanna be someone, you drive a Ferrari. If you ARE someone, you drive a Lamborghini". One of my more favorite quotes because its true.

The Aventador throws blue flames out it's exhaust. That's soul enough for me.

I look at those photos - and to me it doesn't really 'grab' me.... BUT...
I remember being a kid - and having a huge poster of the Lamborghini Countach on the wall... For an 80s car - that thing was CrayZee.... And I worshiped that poster. It inspired me to dream, and was probably the catalyst for my passion for cars. So - for youngsters today - what is 'their' Countach? Could this be it? Or perhaps the Lamborghini Veneno? Or the Veyron? Or the Zonda? Or the McLaren? It staggers me that these cars get produced for such a high-budget limited market - and yet we sit here scratching our heads why a $40,000 Falcon can't sell consistently.... So - I like the LaFerrari.... but I don't love it..... But sometimes Love takes time...........

As it turns out the Ferrari dry weight is not official but a tabloid guess.
These are the official Mclaren figures Mclaren P1 DIN weight (kg / lbs) 1474 / 3249 Dry weight (kg / lbs) 1376 / 3033 Dry weight with lightweight options (kg / lbs) 1341 / 2956 The enzo was weighed by a customer at 1480kg with a full tank of 110 litres. Apparently the La Ferrari is supposed to weigh the same. |

being german owned would be a huge benefit to any manufacturer - germany is where the pride in the job is . . . . not where lambos and falcons are built |

I love it!
Saw a 430 the other day, I think they look cheap and plasticcy... No wonder they have terrible resale values after just a few years. Funny, as when they first came out there was a waiting list and I believe they were sold at higher than list price! |

Meh, ever since the Aventador was released, I haven't seen a better designed and executed supercar from anyone.
And after reading this, Ferrari's reputation is not looking that great... http://jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins

I'd buy the P1, purely because Mclaren's are more reliable than ferrari's. Btw, I love Ferrari's, F40 being a long time fav of mine

Yeah they have been doing it for years. Even in our local market. That's why you rarely ever see a Ferrari test or comparison in Motor or Top Gear Aus.

not really sure if i am biased or not, because i don't really care for either manufacturer where it counts, but
to me they look like a standard ferrari and a standard mclaren one looks fast if not messy - the other looks fast enough but beautiful one has vents and things everywhere - the other is just a neat package that has the curves in all the right spots and surprisingly enough, the beautiful one normally comes out on top of the one that was designed with winning before outright looks |

Ford Aus were always famous for doing the same in tests. in a comparison of the base model falcon v commodore for instance they supplied an S pack. And the Falcon still lost. Last edited by MethodX; 08-03-2013 at 07:37 PM. |
