I must admit I think they sound very good, but a few comments here about best sounding V8 etc are over the top IMO.
Regardless, for a fast and classy sedan they appear to be an excellent (if way overpriced in Aus) choice. I do like the understated but aggressive look of the "normal" AMGs. |

Near where I work there is a, funnily enough, black one getting around with no large rear wing. Anyway the sound of that thing is like nothing else. When these start up there is like a punch that gives a small indication of what lurks underneath. Best sounding V8? Not sure, but it ranks highly up there. Another one for me is the Maserati V8 Gran Turismo, the V8 in that sounds just as good. Resemblance to a clapped out Commodore? That must be some Commodore cause I've never heard one like that. Either show proof of one or STFU.

180 is a lot of gorillas for a C-class in my eyes. Didn't they retail for 140 when new? (Without options, probably)
I know there are a couple of forum members here that own them. If you're reading this: was it money well-spent? I know I would if I could.. And I don't know about you guys, but I think a well-sorted LSX is one of the crispest, angriest, meanest-sounding things getting around, currently |

On a Ford Forum... that's rich Hulk.
C63 ain't a patch on a '35 in any respect with the exception of luxury and to be honest performance cars are not meant to be lounges. Underengineered, overpriced and a badge on wheels... Waste of money at half the price. Daniel |

In it's home country and places like America, AMGs and M series are far more affordable. Just like our HSV/FPV models compared to falcodores. Just paying way more for an AMG (or any Euro really) because the manufacturer choose to rip off the relevant market (being here) doesn't in itself have much credibility to be honest. Just like any product people buy who pretend (simple-mindedly) the upfront cost alone or badge provided means it's better or that others care... Last edited by MercuryT; 06-02-2014 at 04:40 PM. |

C'mon CAT, aren't you just a little biased? :P
I wouldn't compare the C63 to the R35 anyway, they're in a similar price bracket, but I'd technically call the R35 a Japanese Supercar, and the C63 a German Sports Saloon, completely different class of vehicle. If we had overseas pricing on the C63 here, it'd be phenomenal performance for the money. I don't think the C63 was ever really engineered for the track or racing, unlike the R35, the C63 is luxury motoring, with a ridiculous engine under the hood. |

The C63 is really just a performance car that goes relatively fast and makes all the right noises... not really suited for track work and also does not have computer-controlled AWD.
Nissan GT-R is a track weapon no doubt but I wouldn't even compare it to the C63 Black Series as that is also just a fast coupe with a fancy wing and big brakes. When it comes to exhaust note, I can think of a dozen cars off the top of my head that sound a lot better than a GT-R but not many can match the AMG's tune! Those that think they sound like a "clapped out Holden"... how can you compare a hand made AMG motor (7200rpm redline) with a custom Eisenmann exhaust to an old 253 V8? I'm a Ford man through and through but when I hear a nice sounding V8, I'm not afraid to admit it regardless of what brand the car is !

C63 exhaust note doesn't do it for me, doesn't sound anywhere near as good as a Holley fed 308 to me... but that's just what I think.

I just want to say a big LOL to people bagging either the C63 or the R35.
Yes, driving an aussie sedan DEFINITELY gives you the ability to poo on those cars... ELL OH ELL

Saying a R35 GTR will beat a C63 is like saying a modded XR6T will beat a C63.
Yes, they might, but they are much cheaper cars, cheaper brands. ITs like comparing a Rivers brand business shirt to a Armani, sure both will cover you and do much the same job, even have a similar logo, but you can see and feel the difference in fit, feel and look. If you're buying one for the badge you might as well go get a 50k merc.. average joe won't be able to tell the difference.
The GTR is an affordable supercar... C63 is a quick lounge chair lol.

Do these black versions sound the same as a normal C63?
I see lots of C63 around the city and they are way too crackly for me, a Mesarati or M3 sounds much better in my opinion. i love the cars but just not the sound. |

Dan, can you take Hulk for a ride so he can see first hand why a Nissan in this case is so much more than the C63. It's painful reading puppy love based on one ride and then the comparison based off a "mates" ride in the GT-R.

Given the choice i'd have the R35 in a heartbeat over the AMG, not even close actually. One is pretty special (R35) the other really just another fast sedan, albeit a very good one. Even so they both quality in their own ways, owners of each would be very happy I suspect. |

But its just too expensive for what it is at the end of the day.. A Nissan. Maybe at $80-90k would be a fair price relative to a C63. The Supercharged GTS VF is a nice car but who would pay $100k for a Holden/HSV? Again, maybe $65-75k is fair. Think about it like a TV.. Do you buy a 55 inch Panasonic TV (Merc) for $2000 or a 80 inch Soniq (Nissan/Holden) TV for $2000??? Of course you buy the Panasonic, if you can afford quality buy quality. Not go for quantity of the cheaper product. |

Forget the price of AMGs, they and BMW just gouge us. The GTR will never be <100k, the engineering effort and sheer technology within this car required years of R&D and this R&D costs money. They would have had to recoup much of that with the pricing knowing that it is not going to be a volume seller. It is the same with HSV, Porsche, etc. Pricing is determined by the budget and the expectation that project undertaken for the vehicle will return profit. On the rare occasion (Lexus LFA, Bugatti Veyron) car makers factor in losses and use the car as a marketing and R&D project.

I had to read it twice just because the TV analogy is just so bizarre....(Soniq is a Nissan GTR) Still, you obviously rate Mercs very high like your mate and that's all good, everyone is different. |
