WRX is what I would aim for. If my VF gives me the poops then that's what I will be changing to.

I wouldn't waste the time or money on WRX as the XR6 Turbo or the F6 would be cheaper and parts plentiful. And besides a modified XR6T or F6 would eat a WRX STI for breakfast.

What about the Lexus / Toyota Soarer???

I have seen them as low as 2 and 3 grand.

2.5T or 4L V8.... they are good for around 200kw aren't they??

Closest to FWD I'll take is AWD. Not really a fan of FWD cars, lol.

You've only been driving 5 years and you admit that the majority of it has been in Falcons. I'd suggest you're really missing out with your blanket no FWD rule.

I actually prefer a good FWD over the majority of AWDs I have driven. A Golf GTI would meet all your requirements for quick (especially after a tune), modifiable (so many options now) and you can get them in your price bracket.

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d.../?Cr=6&sdmvc=1 - not sure where you are, but there's plenty out there like that.

I'd get that over a flogged out 10-15 year old WRX anyday.

EDIT: I've driven the current new WRX and value for money I'd suggest a used good condition GTI is a much better car - especially if you want performance.

I agree with Alan D Segal, I've been driving a v6 bora 4motion the past few months and it is a really great car to drive, FWD until your up it then the rears kick in! Surprisingly quick too!
P.S. It is for sale ;-)

I've driven em just haven't owned em. Drove a Focus ST we have on the lot here (I work at a Ford dealer) and the Torque Steer was something I didn't like. It's not a blind "i hate FWD cars", I've driven em and just don't like them.

What about a Golf R32, 6 cyl AWD, sound good standard, and even better with an aftermarket exhaust.

I also like the BMW 130i, straight 6, RWD, I don't think they have an LSD though.

Oh yeah shiny on top but thrashed every time it was driven and last serviced when?
Problem is they are not old enough to be collectable and fully restored, but cheap enough that almost anyone can pay one off with their fortnightly cheque with nothing left to service it.
just like most falcons? I completely disagree with you im afraid.

Having been jap before with an R33 gtst and a supra, I would have either in a heartbeat.

The supra was just a cruiser! awesome on the freeway but capable of making big power, the skyline was just the opposite..using just one word to describe it... Raw. It would scare the crap out of me every time I drove it but my god did I have a smile on my dial at the end.

Mate you've got a great example of a car already. A MKII FG is nicer then any r33 or s15 when it comes to daily driving. Have you driven a xr6t, Evo, s15 etc? They are all bloody quick but I don't see the point in taking step backwards on an older car just for a bit more go.

Have you moded the xr6 at all?

R33;

- chews petrol
- dull interior
- dull exterior
- old
- cop bait
- slow

A lot of people would disagree on the last one, but 25DET motors aren't that flash, even with light mods. And modified ones are only quick from a roll.

Drive one and then you'll know

The good thing with the WRX, they were all AU models and plenty sold. The Evo 8 and up was AU delivered. The EVO is dearer but more capable as a track car. For a daily driver, pick the WRX.

If you're looking at Chasers, consider Lexus GS300s. Non turbo 2JZ, but relatively easy to turbo. Thats what I was looking to get, and what I will be getting after a eventually sell my BA

I couldnt stop laughing it was just crazy , good fun! However whoever tuned it should have ramped the boost in a little less aggressive.

500hp in a car that weighs about 1000kg driving through the front wheels. I doubt you would be able to get it around a track
