Why not just get last census data...merge with immigration data and deaths births and marriages data? Pretty much same result. I dont need a census to tell me my local feeder roads are way undersized and we should have had a train line 15 years ago!

Need a quick answer of possible folks. The Mother In Law will be staying with us for the next couple of weeks due to ill health. She usually lives on her own, at her own place.
So what happens here? Will she be fined if she does not fill in the Census because she won't be living at her address tomorrow night, and possibly for the next couple of weeks? We will obviously include her in the Census tomorrow but I'm not 100% sure what happens here. Basically, person who lives on their own is not at their residence on the night of the Census. What have they got to do to not get in trouble? |

Well, from their website:
"Do not worry if you have not received your Census materials. You will not be fined if you complete your Census after Census night." This mob cannot even mail out the paperwork with 12 digit pin on time but feel fit to threaten their masters, the public, with $180 a day fine!! Happy census night, Cheers, George V |

I did email census inquiry last night to inform them my usual place of residence was going to be unoccupied so they don't knock on my door.

I had no problem, I got the wife to do it, and she also had no problem. We did put in honest religious beliefs though.

We could have had a paperless system where you could visit the RMS / ATO / Police station / Post Office or Centrelink and request the 12 digit pin over the counter - or even on the phone / online. What would that mail out have cost on printing, advertising and postage?? $15 mil?? $20 mil???

THE Census and Australian Bureau of Statistics websites have crashed on the most important day of the year, leaving many Australians frustrated and unable to complete their form online.
Many trying to log on to the Census and ABS site were met with an error message on Tuesday evening saying the site could not be reached. Some took to Twitter to slam the ABS, with one user sarcastically saying they were “definitely technically competent enough to keep our most private data safe.” Others called it a “farce” and worried whether they would be fined after for not completing their form on time. Census Australia tweeted that they are “working to restore the service” while some online mocked them for the obvious statement after people had spent hours trying to access the sites. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/nat...698075cec306b2 |

Haha no surprises here.
Also not surprised to read they load tested at only 150% of a guestimate at a cost of nearly half a mil |

It seems like a very old way to get data. Govco already knows pretty much all of this from my tax data, my info in myGov, my kids data from the Childcare database etc etc....I'm worried that any of it would actually be news to them!

What did they think would happen with millions of peope attempting to access the web site at the same time filling out the same form. Sometimes I wonder about the people running the show

They didn't advertise this fact up until the system went into meltdown.
I'd say the inmates are running the asylum, but we're all here
